Job Title: Claims Assistant

FULL JOB DESCRIPTION
The Claims Assistant position is a clerical position. This position will process the medical download, attach EOBs to checks and mail to providers; scan the EOB and medical into the claim file; issue any check request received from Claim Consultants; scan payments to claim files; distribute incoming mail; and provide clerical support to the claims staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS -Following are major areas of responsibility:
Preparing B31 forms and filing with the MS Workers’ Compensation Commission, maintain diary system to have them returned stamped and mailed certified to employees.
- Prepare B18 forms on claim files.
- Preparing weekly medical benefits payments for checks, mailing checks out with EOBs and attaching the EOBs with check numbers and medical records to the claim file.
- Returning telephone calls regarding status of payments on medical bills
- Entering into claim system Employee Occurrence Reports
- Maintain filing system and closed claim file inventory.
- Perform any other clerical duties that Worker’s Compensation claims staff request.
- Send mileage letters and mileage forms on medical claims to employees.
- Review and code medical bills for bill review.
- Maintain a commitment to quality customer service with our subscribers, clients, claimants, etc.
- Participate in designated departmental and company-wide projects as assigned by Claims Management.
- Any other job tasks or duties as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS
The applicant must have strong written and verbal communication skills in dealing with customers, claimants, and attorneys. The applicant needs to be able to apply basic mathematical concepts and operations. The applicant must have the ability to learn and use customized claims systems software, be proficient in Microsoft Office suit, and follow HIPAA guidelines in maintaining confidentiality with personal information. The applicant needs to be able to review and understand insurance policies, have good organizational skills, good interpersonal skills, be able to prioritize work, while utilizing multitasking skills with minimum supervision.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
An associate degree is preferred with claims work experience may be considered.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
This position requires the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
