Courier Express is currently looking for individuals in the Springfield area who are reliable, responsible, and have excellent communication skills to be an integral part of our team and assist with our growth plans. Our ideal applicants will provide prompt, courteous and professional delivery/pickup service to multiple facilities throughout New England and the Northeastern United States.
Here are the specifics about the position we currently have available:
- $20.00 per hour!
- Part-time to start – hours worked will vary each week and there is no guarantee of hours. Full-time may be offered after training, but there is no guarantee or timeframe. Limited availability will limit your hours and possibly reduce the rate offered to you.
- Start times will vary between 4 a.m. and 9 a.m.. (in some instance, even earlier)
- Shifts can be up to 12+ hours.
- Deliveries are mostly between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., but can start earlier (1-2 a.m.) and go into the evening hours (8-9 p.m.)
- Mostly commercial or business-to-business deliveries
- Some days might include simple freight pickup/delivery ("A to B"), where others could be an entire route (10-25 deliveries). Some deliveries are "no-touch" and could be loaded/unloaded with a forklift, while others will require "white-glove handling."
- Cartage deliveries can be more demanding as we can be delivering large or bulky items mostly to residential locations
- Some overnight/“over the road” (OTR) work – usually no more than 1-2 nights at a time
- Deliveries are usually done solo
REQUIREMENTS
- 1 year or more of professionally driving a 26' BOX/STRAIGHT TRUCK in the past 5 years OR have graduated from a certified truck driving school
- Must report to Springfield, MA or one of our client locations, depending on business needs
- Must have clear background and have clean driving record
- Drug screening, including testing for marijuana: ALL tested substances must come back NEGATIVE (Federal/DOT requirement)
- Must have current DOT Medical Certificate/Card
- Have reliable transportation for commuting and be on time when scheduled
- Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (traffic, weather conditions, etc.)
- Must have your own smart-device and be proficient with such: phones, tablets, GPS, Bluetooth
- Be comfortable driving/delivering in all settings – rural to urban/downtown areas, including Boston & New York
- Physically be able to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, push, pull, climb, balance, crouch, handle and move/push/pull/lift items (sometimes large and irregularly shaped) weighing up to 70+ lbs., (proper equipment is provided for assistance)
- Must meet all requirements of our insurance provider
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Safely operating a 26' box truck and maneuvering into loading or unloading positions
- Keeping your vehicle clean and organized at the end of every day, reporting any issues to the appropriate manager/department
- Representing Courier Express and our customers in the most professional manner
- Making 1-25+ deliveries to residential and/or commercial areas each day
- Following detailed instructions
- Keeping an accurate ELD logbook: documenting and logging work hours, rest periods, mileage and retain fuel/toll receipts
- Loading and unloading freight to/from truck using lift-gate, pallet jack and/or hand truck
- Securing loads with use of blankets, load bars & straps
- Completing inside deliveries, if required
- Collecting and verifying delivery instructions
