Essential Functions

- Create and execute individual education plans for each of the students in your care.
- Communicate with other staff and family members about each student's progress and struggles.
- Prepare detailed lesson plans in advance and submit them to administrators for approval.
- Write IEP's and participate in IEP (individual education plan) meetings as scheduled by the school.
- Utilize researched-based, best practices interventions, programs, and strategies to implement curriculum to provide an appropriate educational program for students.
- Assess student growth through progress monitoring as appropriate in a timely manner.
- Use individualized reinforcement techniques to keep each student on the path toward greatness.
- Use data-driven decision-making to monitor student performance and make instructional/behavioral decisions as appropriate for the purpose of implementing effective intervention to facilitate student progress.
- Invite family members to participate in conferences to gain knowledge of each student's educational progress.
- Confer with on-site and off-site therapists over disciplinary and behavioral issues with students.
- Create a safe, productive classroom environment utilizing PBIS.
- Maintain effective communication with students, staff, parents, and administration for the purpose of collaboration and planning.
- Plan and supervise the functions of all classroom paraprofessional assigned to a class.
- Familiar with CPI Training
- Providing direct instruction in core academic subjects, tailored to the unique learning styles and abilities of each student.
- Utilizing assistive technology and specialized resources to enhance learning experiences and accessibility for students with disabilities.
- Monitoring and assessing student progress regularly, and adjusting instructional approaches as needed to ensure ongoing growth and development.
- Ability to multitask in a high stress environment
- Notify parents of the onset of unacceptable behavior of a student.
- Update and provide data-based quarterly for progress reports
- Must enjoy working with children.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in special education or a related field
- ISBE PEL Special Education License
- Valid teaching certification in special education
- Experience working with students with autism or other developmental disabilities
- Strong knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices
- Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with parents, colleagues, and support staff
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Exceptional patience and empathy, with the ability to build trusting relationships and provide compassionate support to students facing diverse learning barriers.
