Description
JBMP Group is a regional property management company specializing in mid-size multi-family buildings. JBMP Group is actively searching for a Controller to helm its accounting, cash management, and reporting operations. This individual will be pivotal in managing the financial landscape for a diverse portfolio of properties and related entities including the company itself, and interfacing directly with property investors and company ownership.
The role demands a seasoned professional with a proven track record in real estate accounting. The successful candidate will exhibit a comprehensive skill set encompassing reconciliations, budget management, and proficiency in accounting systems. The Controller will ensure financial accuracy and compliance, leveraging tools like Quickbooks, AccountingSeed, MS Excel, and Buildium to streamline accounting processes, develop financial controls, and facilitate comprehensive reporting to management, partners, clients, and lenders. They will also play a crucial role in budgeting, financial analysis, client reporting, and ensuring the financial integrity of the company's real estate under management.
Qualifications
· 8+ years of experience in a Controller role within the real estate investment sector
· Demonstrated experience with an industry standard property management software
· Demonstrated experience with Quickbooks, AccountingSeed or similar accounting software
· Proficient in data analysis tools, particularly MS Excel
· Strong knowledge of financial statements and financial reporting
· Experience in journal entries and accounting functions
· Proven leadership skills with experience managing teams and financial operations
· Detail-oriented with a strong emphasis on accuracy and consistency in financial reporting
· Ability to develop and implement effective financial controls and processes
· Excellent time management and organizational skills
· Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to interact with various stakeholders
· Willingness to undertake special projects and respond to ad hoc financial reporting requests
· Ability to interact with people at all levels in an organization in a fast-paced environment, sometimes under tight deadlines
Responsibilities
· Lead an accounting team, plus oversee financial aspects of Property Management
· Foster innovation and strategic financial planning within the department
· Develop and implement financial controls and guidelines
· Produce and analyze monthly financial reports for management, clients, and lenders
· Maintain financial integrity across the real estate portfolio and company through meticulous record-keeping and compliance
· Engage in proactive financial analysis and goal setting for the company and its stakeholders
· Coordinate with executives on financial strategies and reporting
· Monthly bank reconciliations, creating and posting journal entries recorded to the general ledger, in-depth review of general ledger and income statement
· Act as an internal and external customer service leader and assist the supervisor/manager with more complex issues
· Monitors and manages property cash flow and coordinates the appropriate timing of issuing payment to vendors; alerting property owners when cash flow problems exist
· Analyzes various accounting reports such as accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, various general ledger and monthly financial statements
· Prepares and submits monthly financial statements and supporting schedules that identify actual, budget, variance and over/under based on the plan
· Prepares, coordinates and reviews the closing of year-end books
