Summary Description:
Yaddo is one of the oldest and pre-eminent arts organizations in the country. We are seeking a lively and self-motivated individual to join our development team. The position will be based in Saratoga Springs, NY, with potential for significant time spent in NYC. The Senior Development Associate will report to the Director of Donor Relations, and will manage the identification, cultivation and solicitation of a pool of prospects and existing donors (both individual and institutional) to meet the fundraising goals of Yaddo and to enhance the strategic vision and culture of the organization.
Typical activities, tasks and assignments:
# Develop and execute solicitation strategies for major gifts, both outright and planned.
# Maintain and grow a portfolio of 100-150 prospects.
# Execute at least 25 significant contacts to donors and prospects per month reflecting significant progress in the relationship with these donors.
# Assist in setting and then meeting Annual Operating goals.
# Play a key role in coordinating event fundraising plans, including solicitation of Corporate Sponsorship, ticket sales, and in-kind donations.
# Oversees direct mail campaigns to reach potential contributors.
# Research public and private grant agencies and foundations to identify other sources of funding as directed.
# Other duties as assigned
Required skills and abilities:
· Proven success in fundraising and relationship building.
· Ability to present ideas effectively and enlist support.
· Ability to establish goals and set priorities.
· Strong knowledge of fundraising best practices.
· High level of personal motivation, energy and a sense of urgency, with a roll up your sleeve’s mentality.
· Strong communications skills.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office.
· Knowledge of donor-based databases, preferably including Raiser’s Edge.
· Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
· Preference for those with at least 5 years previous experience in development for an arts, educational or other cultural nonprofit fundraising setting.
· Able to attend art world events and Yaddo programs several evenings per week when so required, as well as plan cultivation events in coordination with colleagues throughout the year.
