Description:
- Collects and interprets data and information from health care members and documents diagnoses ensuring medical records are clear and accurate and entered correctly into the electronic medical record system.

Maintains and reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information; electronically tasks test results and examination results for physician’s review and disposition determination.

Provides direct patient care by monitoring and tracking patient’s vital signs, performs procedures such as IV placement, phlebotomy, and medication administration according to physician’s direction.

Provides direct patient care by changing dressings, remove sutures, advancing, manipulating or discontinuing drains and performing other minimally invasive procedures according to physician’s direction.

Provides direct patient care by applying or removing casts/splints and durable medical equipment.

Assists the physician with invasive procedures.

Assist with the reduction of fractures and dislocations.

Assists with pain assessment of patients.

Administers medications per physician instructions.

Utilizes the nursing process to assess and assist physician to evaluate patient care, including determining medical diagnoses, therapeutic plans, interventions and procedures.

Collaborates with physician in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients.

Performs focused patient interviews to identify patient needs; including orthopaedic history and partial physical exam.

Responds to patient’s questions by consulting with physician and assisting in management of medical and surgical concerns and emergencies under physician supervision. Provide consultation based on physician’s input.

Generates prescription orders, laboratory orders and diagnostic procedures according to physician’s instructions.

Initiates and evaluates patient and/or family education in the areas of orthopaedic equipment and medical supplies, crutches, canes, braces and durable medical equipment. Provides pre and post-operative instructions to patients and families. Advises patients regarding health and illness prevention and recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.

Orders surgical equipment and hardware for specific procedures.

Communicates physician’s verbal orders to other providers.

Serves as a liaison between surgical facilities, physicians, patients, families, nursing staff, ancillary services, managed care/insurance companies and product representatives.
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS:

Georgia Registered Nurse license.

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related field preferred.

Current CPR/BLS certification.
-
Orthopaedic Nursing Certification preferred.
-
One-two years orthopaedic nursing experience preferred or equivalent combination of education and nursing experience.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
-
Demonstrated skills in developing effective patient/caregiver relationships.

Knowledge of HIPAA regulations as they apply to a physician’s office.

Knowledge of and ability to use aseptic technique.
