We are currently seeking an Assistant Estimator/ CAD to join our team in Laredo, TX Division. The Assistant Estimator/ CAD will modify, proofread, and correct existing floor plans for quality, as well as estimate material lists from CAD drawings of floor plans, in addition, to support the Estimator gather, calculate, and compile data for use in bid proposal estimates for one or more discipline areas. This position will perform research to estimate unit labor requirements, product specifications, coverage and application specifications and quality control specifications for each new product and provide documentation to Contracts Manager for inclusion into scope of works segment of contracts and to help determine pricing of labor and materials. This position will assist the Estimator with purchase orders, work orders, and ballpark estimates, and work with the Selections Coordinator on adjusting plans for options and upgrades and assure that the plans reflect the special requests or changes.
SCOPE:
The Assistant Estimator/ CAD will have daily interaction with the Estimator and aid in building and adjusting Construction timelines and time requirements of associated trades. There will be daily interaction with the Superintendent, and Customer Service Representatives during variance meetings to adjust 3D construction/estimating plans; in addition to match and adjust estimating format with purchase orders, work orders, construction schedule and selections.
Major Duties and Responsibilities but not limited to:
- Take new plans from Designer and create 3D CAD material drawings.
- Create 3D CAD drawings of elevations and provide to Marketing and Sales.
- Develop material lists for all new models from CAD drawings.
- Monitor and update material pricing database and provide a report on an excel spreadsheet.
- Update CAD drawings and material lists on older models as needed for project management.
- Participate in variance meetings with the Estimator, Superintendents; eliminate overages, shortages, and make adjustments.
- Assist the Designer by making on-site visits to confirm changes, before making changes to vellums.
- Visually check plan discrepancies with Estimator or contractors on-site and determine what changes must be made.
- Purchase Orders drop shipment adjustments.

- Master Material lists
- Blueprints
- Then make changes to vellums within one week, or before the next scheduled meeting.
- Make changes to plans per special customer requests and create additional material list.
- Inventory new models at key stages:
- Foundation
- Framing-before insulation
- Brick/Tile/Shingles
- Create site plans & position electrical meter for new home releases.
- Value engineering of materials, framing plan and all other aspects to help reduce costs.
- Monitor cost on new models, (budget to actual), and provide a report.
- Issue out P.O.’s & W.O.’s, (must match schedule, and in complete packages).
Other Duties as Needed:
- Responsible for getting approval of plans and blueprints from Construction. Manager/Field Superintendent and Estimator, after changes are complete.
· Responsible for maintaining master contracts, unit cost pricing, unit materials, and Lead time agreements tied to schedule.
- Responsible for maintaining and updating the complete scope of work.
- Responsible for new product research, (product specifications, characteristics, and coverage).
- Coordinate subcontractors and submit timelines to help with appropriate information.
- Assist in meeting production schedules.
- Reports updates to Construction Manager and Project Manager as needed.
- Assist Estimator in developing a training manual, policy/procedures manual for the estimating department.
- Responsible for pricing out options and responsible for monitoring canaries, and for providing project management a report.
- Other duties may be assigned dependent on business needs.

Required Qualifications/ Experience:
· Associate Degree in related field required; bachelor’s degree preferred, or
· Relevant experience may be substituted on a 2:1 Ratio Basis (2 years of relevant experience equals 1 year of education)
· Must have direct construction industry experience, required.
· Minimum 1 year of previous experience estimating required.
· Minimum 1 year of previous experience in CAD (computer-aided design), and capable of working with plans and estimating in a timely manner.
· Bilingual required- Spanish and English
· Must be capable of reading blueprints and preparing material list.
· Must be able to estimate all aspects of residential construction.
· Must have a Texas Driver’s License and a good driving record.
· Must possess excellent communication skills and be detail oriented.
· Must possess effective analytical and math skills, with above average problem-solving capabilities, and time-management skills.
· Must have excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite-Excel, Outlook, and Word
Physical Requirements:
· Infrequent in-town travel.
· Must be capable of climbing, bending, stooping, stretching, and frequent walking on uneven ground around various stages of building sites.
· Must be able to move computer, plotter, and related equipment.
