Job Title: Construction Estimator
Job Description: We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Construction Estimator to join our dynamic team. This position requires a solid understanding of construction processes and the ability to analyze project specifications and blueprints to provide accurate cost estimates.
Reports to: Project Manager
Critical Tasks & Responsibilities
- Cost Estimation: Assist in the preparation of detailed and accurate cost estimates for construction projects by analyzing project specifications, drawings, and other documentation.
- Project Analysis: Evaluate and analyze project scope, specifications, and requirements to determine necessary materials, labor, and equipment.
- Bid Preparation: Support the preparation and submission of bids for construction projects, ensuring all requirements and deadlines are met.
- Vendor Coordination: Communicate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing information and ensure cost-effective procurement of materials and services.
- Data Management: Maintain and update a database of historical cost data, unit prices, and productivity rates to support accurate and efficient estimating processes.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the project management and construction teams to ensure alignment on project goals, budgets, and timelines.
- Reporting: Prepare and present detailed cost reports, highlighting key insights and recommendations to senior management.
- Development of Independent Cost Estimates (ICE): Develop independent cost estimates by defining project scope, performing quantity take-offs, gathering cost data, and applying unit costs to ensure accurate and reliable project budgets.d.
Other duties as required but not listed in this Scope of Service that will serve for the program, and as determined by the Resident Engineer/Architect, Project Director or Project Manager.
Required Competencies and Qualifications (technical, academic, experience, values, behaviors):
- Academic - Bachelor degree or higher education in Engineering or Architecture.
- Experience - Must have one (1) year of estimating experience (required) and three (3) years of experience in the construction industry (preferred).
- Communication - Good to excellent verbal and written communication language skills in Spanish and English.
- Technical Skills – Highly proficient in MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Xactimate, RS Means and other PM software; good understanding of construction drawings, reading and interpreting of plans and specifications, materials, methods and procedures .
- Ability to perform basic to complex quantity, engineering computations, maintain field and office records.
- General Management – Leadership, sound judgement, team player, follow communication protocols, excellent communication skills, and multi-tasking.
- Personal Attitude – Highly motivated; good organizational skills; ability to follow directions; willingness to learn; result driven; able to work effectively and manage relations with senior executives from diverse departmental groups; able to work under time pressure; detail oriented.
