Sous Chef
Mike's Cafe and Wine Bar is a full service vegan restaurant in idyllic Friday Harbor on San Juan Island in Washington sate. We have operated for 11 years and are recognized as a top choice on the island. We have 95% 5 star ratings and have no similar competiton on our destination island. As a resort driven economy, 60% of our revenue happens in 70 days. As such, the schedule of work varies accordingly. Late June through Labor Day we operate 6 days per week evening service only from 4:30 - 8:30. We have outside seating up to 120 , inside seating up to 55. Shoulder seasons operate 5 days per week 4:30 - 8:00.
Mike's is 100% owned privately by Mike.
Food and beverage provided
Duties:
- Plan and direct food preparation and culinary activities
- Create and execute menus in collaboration with the restaurant owner and manager
- Ensure the quality of ingredients and dishes are up to standards
- Supervise and coordinate kitchen staff, including cooks, sous chefs, and other kitchen workers
- Train and mentor kitchen staff on proper cooking techniques and safety procedures
- Oversee inventory management, including ordering and stocking of ingredients and supplies
- Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment
- Adhere to all food safety and sanitation regulations
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a head chef or assistant chef in a high-volume restaurant or catering establishment
- In-depth knowledge of culinary techniques, menu development, and food presentation
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices
- Creativity and passion for creating innovative dishes
Please note that bartending experience is not relevant to the position of Head Chef.

Pay: $23.00 - $24.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week
