Job Title: Optometric Technician
Duties
- The Optometric Technician performs duties relative to the evaluation and treatment of optometry patients seeking spectacles, contact lenses, or other visual care.
- Obtains and records patient data to include an abbreviated case history, medical conditions, and medication presently prescribed.
- Performs diagnostic testing/ancillary procedure duties, adhering to the specific requirements for each type of test. These procedures should be done in an orderly manner so that essential elements are not overlooked and performed in a timely manner.
- This position may be responsible for all the following: greeting and checking in patients, answering telephone, scheduling appointments, checking out patients, operating office equipment and general office assistance.
Requirements
- Other Requirements include awareness of patient schedule and helping maintain effective flow, cleaning and maintain supplies in exam rooms/pretest room.
- Ready to work daily at scheduled start time – arriving at least 10 minutes prior.

- Set Phoropter
- Lid Flips
- Administer Eye Drops
- Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
- Identify if current results are significantly different than prior results & retest if necessary.
- Communicate to Drs/Scribes that patient is ready.
- Schedule appointments, answer phones
- Various clerical and clinical duties
- Be able to quickly learn optician duties: assist patients in optical, including frame and lens selection and adjusting glasses.
- Be able to quickly learn ophthalmic technical duties: including but not limited to entering acuities, lensometry, iCare tonometry, OCTs, visual fields, fundus photography.
- Willingness to cross-train in office roles

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $11.50 - $13.00 per hour
Expected hours: 32 – 40 per week

Experience:
- Ophthalmology: 1 year (Preferred)
