Summary of Position:
We are looking to hire a detailed-oriented, driven, and resourceful electrical engineer to design and project manage the development of the electrical and automation portion of Saltwater Disposal facilities, overhead primary electrical lines and microgrid generation systems.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
The following represents most of the duties performed by the position but is not meant to be all-inclusive nor prevent other duties from being assigned when necessary. Employees are expected to comply with all regulatory, environmental, and safety rules and standards, as well as corporate policies.
As an Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for:
- Project Manager for all technical and financial aspects of electrical and automation projects.
- Leading all aspects of the design of electrical and controls components of facility builds or modifications, coordinating between field I/E team and the overall Project engineering team to define project scope and deliverables.
- Creating Project Design Packages including but not limited to one-line & layout drawings, electrical schematics, bills of material, and procedures (in accordance with applicable codes).
- Creating/Reviewing equipment and electrical material (i.e. switchgear, transformers, wire/cables, etc.) technical specifications for procurement and ensure they meet/exceed compliance with all project requirements and applicable codes.
- Supervising, reviewing, and approving the work of third-party engineers and designers.
- Conducting condition assessments of existing electrical systems.
- Acting as main point of contact with electric utility companies for submission of load sheets, contracts and permits.
- Coordinating with vendors and stakeholders, and other disciplines in support of project completion.
- Creating and maintaining project specific documentation prior to, during, and following completion of the projects.
- Identifying, analyzing, and managing technical risk on projects under direction of the Project Manager.
- Assisting the Project Manager in meeting project goals including, but not limited to schedule, budget, safety, and overall quality.
- Responsible for as-built design drawings.
- Analyzing existing facilities and VFD/pump skids to develop electrical efficiencies using control schemes.
- Reviewing and making recommendations on supplier proposals and articulate the advantages and disadvantages of proposed instrumentation, including improvement, innovation, and new technology opportunities.
- Designing systems that will include, power and grounding requirements, variable frequency drives, size control cabinet breakers, fusing, wiring, overloads, starters, drives, and conduits based on cabinet and field device loads.
- Performing site walk downs for electrical power, process piping, and instrumentation.
- Specifying field instruments, transmitters, control/discrete valves, and installation requirements.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Have a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or engineering technology from an accredited college or trade school. A master’s degree is a plus.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the Company.
- Must have 5-10 years’ experience, education, training and / or a combination. Power, Controls, and Utility systems experience is a preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience leading industrial plant projects (terminal, refinery, or chemical plant) from an electrical engineering standpoint is required. 8+ years of combined experience in Electrical and Project Engineering is a plus.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience and knowledge in design, selection and requirements of low and medium voltage industrial power equipment, variable frequency drives, control and automation equipment and systems is required.
- Have proven engineering design, process engineering & project management skills with the ability to lead multiple projects.
- Have proven project management capabilities, as the position is responsible from concept through process validation.
- Have excellent communication/presentation skills, with an ability to negotiate with vendors, contractors, and consultants.
- Can work effectively in a team environment with demonstrated success in influencing at all levels inside as well as outside the company. Able to lead and prioritize multiple projects at multiple plant locations and actively interact with cross-functional teams.
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with MS Office products (Project, Outlook, Word, Excel & Power Point) & various pdf editing/mark up software.
- Competency in computer operation for engineering design programs (i.e. AutoCAD), engineering program applications (ETAP & SKM), and computer aided design and drafting (CADD) software.
- Have knowledge of electrical power distribution, switchgear controls, system grounding designs, and a strong understanding of all applicable/associated National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements of these systems.
- Have knowledge of low & medium voltage transformers, switchgear, and power/control systems.
- Be able to drive all technical aspects of a project from cradle-to-grave with minimal supervision.
- Able to read and interpret engineering plans and schematics.
- Have working knowledge of electrical codes and standards such as IEC, ISA, NEC, IEEE, etc.
- Be able to initiate and plan the design of lighting systems, power distribution systems, motor control circuits, grounding, motor drives, instrumentation loops, Control Panels, Remote IO Panels, and secondary systems (fire and gas alarm, dc circuits, etc.).
- Be able to create and review medium and low voltage One-Lines, Motor Wiring Schematics, Instrument Loop Drawings, Control Panels Design, and associated Bill of Materials.
- Be able to review, understand and implement technical specifications, Engineering Standards, Construction Standards, and O&M Standards.
- Must have working knowledge of motor control circuits.
- Have strong problem solving and analytical skills.
- Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred, but not required.
