The Project Manager will be responsible for the coordination, organization, and successful completion of BNSF Logistics' projects including projects related to sustainable energy products. This individual will have a good understanding of and will support all activities within our corporate portfolio management process, our software development lifecycle and our overall project lifecycle for new product and/or technology launches using our stage gate process. This individual will lead projects through all stages/phases of the lifecycle and will be responsible for the development and delivery alongside the appropriate business sponsor, stakeholders, and product owners of the project or product launch plans.
A highly effective PM will bring extensive experience in developing SOWs, process mapping, gathering requirements, and leading and directing project teams. The Project Manager can think strategically and translate strategy into tangible business, project, and product launch plans and actions. The Project Manager will work cross-functionally with many business units for projects ranging from small to large in size and complexity. Experience working in the logistics, railroad, or transportation industries preferred. This role requires excellent communication skills both written and verbal and will need to present project status to the executive team.
Position Responsibilities:
- Using a gated process, ensure rigorous, thoughtful methodology to increase speed through the process, improve sales forecasting, and improve launch success.
- Leading and collaborating across several functional workstreams requiring project management skills to execute project and product launch deliverables.
- Working with project stakeholders, sponsors, executives, product owners and others to proactively drive achievement of the annual goals. Developing in concert with the product and business owner the P&L for the product launch and preparing regular financial updates and assessments of performance at quarterly growth promise reviews.
- Serving as a resource for the workstreams in trouble shooting issues and challenges impeding delivery of objectives.
- Negotiate with project stakeholders or suppliers to obtain resources or materials
- Establish and execute a project communication plan.
- Prepare project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Initiate, review, and/or approve modifications to plans.
- Schedule and facilitate meetings related to projects.
- Identify the need for initial or supplemental project resources.
- Monitor or track project milestones and deliverables.
- Identify, review, or select vendors or consultants to meet project needs.
- Direct or coordinate activities of project personnel.
- Assign duties, responsibilities, and spans of authority to project personnel.
- Perform risk assessments to develop response strategies.
- Work with product owners to submit project deliverables, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
- Monitor the performance of the project team members, providing and documenting performance feedback.
- Assist the product owners in assessing current or future customer needs and priorities.
- Develop implementation plans that include analysis such as cost-benefit or return on investment (ROI).
- Maintain project reviews within your areas of ownership.
Education and/or Experience Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, business administration, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, experience with logistics/transportation or supply chain is preferred.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience executing project plans, experience with running IT and business-related projects, experience with change management, Lean and product launches
- Project Management certifications preferred
