A. Overall Purpose Of The Job
The Pharmacist is responsible for ensuring that prescriptions are filled accurately and provider instructions for medications are correctly followed within protocols. The Pharmacist oversees pharmacy technicians to support pharmacy operations and is an integral part of the medical team, ensuring proper pharmaceutical treatments are provided based on patient needs and diagnoses.
B. Key Responsibilities
- Medical Services: Provide medical services at the scope and level of a Pharmacist to preserve the health of employees and client personnel.
- Prescription Verification: Fill prescriptions, verifying instructions from physicians on the proper amounts of medication to be given.
- Drug Contraindications: Check for patient drug contraindications.
- Dosage Verification: Verify dosage regimen for accuracy and ensure specified amounts are within the standard dosing range and frequency.
- Compounding and Dispensing: Accurately compound and dispense medications for delivery to patient care areas.
- Timely Prescription Filling: Ensure prescriptions are filled accurately and in a timely manner.
- Medication Information: Provide medication information and education to medical staff and patients.
- Medical Care Conferences: Participate in medical care conferences as directed by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO).
- Controlled Substances Management: Maintain the security of controlled substances and keep an accurate log of dispensation, waste, etc.
- Stock Maintenance: Maintain adequate stock levels of high-use medications and ensure key medications for unforeseen events (e.g., outbreaks) are available.
- Resupply System: Develop a resupply system with the senior logistician to ensure critical medications are readily available throughout the medical footprint.
- Prescription Filing: File prescriptions once they are filled.
- Pharmacy Technician Oversight: Oversee the work of pharmacy technicians.
- Administrative Functions: Perform administrative functions such as answering phones and stocking shelves.
- Safety and Cleanliness: Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Patient Information Management: Record and maintain patient information in accordance with standard protocols and the Privacy Act.
- Patient Privacy: Protect patients' privacy through confidentiality, infection control procedures, consistent medication administration, and proper storage and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
- Mass Casualty Participation: Actively participate in Mass Casualty exercises and events.
- Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
C. Job Profile
Required Skills and Knowledge:
- Ability to perform duties in a stressful and high-paced environment.
- Ability to adapt to sudden changes and flexibility in work requirements, including potential shift changes based on operational needs and/or command priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
Experience Preferred:
- Experience on a military site, working as a government subcontractor or prime contractor is preferred.
- Recent clinical experience in patient care for at least 6 months out of the past year.
- Experience in both Hospital and Ambulatory Pharmacy, with expertise in both outpatient and inpatient drug therapies.
Education Required:
- Graduate degree from an accredited Pharmacy School approved by the state board of Pharmacy or accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE).
- Hold and maintain an active and unrestricted Pharmacist License free from any pending adverse actions.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Other Special Qualifications:
- Common Access Card (CAC) or ability to obtain one.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English to effectively communicate.
- US Department of State (DOS) clearance or the ability to obtain one is required.
- Must be able to relocate to Iraq.
- A valid passport is required and must be in your possession prior to relocation. You must maintain a current passport during your stay in Iraq.
Job Types: Full-time, Contract
Pay: $55.00 - $65.00 per hour
