Senior Protective Intelligence Analyst
Emergent Risk International (ERI) is seeking to hire a full-time Senior Protective Intelligence Analyst to be embedded with one of our multinational clients on an annual contract. Candidates for this mid-career role will have an analytical and data-driven mindset, desire to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with a focus on threat intelligence analysis and investigations.
The position is located in Washington, DC. Candidates may work in a hybrid capacity but must be based in the Washington DC metro area and able to commute to an office on a regular basis.

ERI operates five lines of business:
● Assessment and Analysis: We provide our clients daily, subscription-based and bespoke geopolitical and threat intelligence services.
● Training: We train intelligence analysts to serve effectively in corporate environments. Our training focuses on tradecraft and tools that drive more efficient and effective analysis. We offer a range of in-house and open training courses to address specific levels of experience and need.
● Online Platform: We offer a subscription-based online portal that provides a workspace environment for security intelligence analysts, combining ERI’s expert analysis with hundreds of curated datasets and our suite of data visualization tools.
● Consulting: We help companies develop and improve their intelligence programs, providing end-to-end support; from assessing needs and providing analysis to recruiting and hiring highly qualified candidates.
● Embedded Analyst Services: We support our clients with embedded analysts, full- and part-time, short- and long-term. Our embedded analysts work directly for our clients, allowing them the benefit of employing intelligence professionals trained to ERI’s strict standards of competency and continually professionally developed by ERI’s senior leadership, armed with access to ERI’s proprietary tools and deep backbench of in-house subject matter experts.
What We’re Looking For:
The Senior Protective Intelligence Analyst will oversee a three-person team of intelligence analysts to create a range of intelligence products and support investigations, including insider and external threats, business-related transactions and market expansion, coach and mentor junior analysts and otherwise serve as the senior intelligence analyst and editor for the team. The ideal candidate will have experience in due diligence, intelligence, geopolitical risk and corporate threat investigations.
The analyst will be trained on ERI-specific analytic tradecraft, writing and analysis as part of the role. Language skills and business knowledge would be a significant advantage.
Primary responsibilities include:
· Develop an expert understanding of the client’s business model and asset locations, ensuring that all intelligence and reporting is tailored to the client’s specific needs.
· Support due diligence and investigations to include M&A evaluation of potential business partners and other individuals and entities with which client has a business interest.
· Research and analyze threats of violence and harassment targeting senior leadership and employees.
· Research entities that may be engaged in fraudulent or unlawful conduct directed at the company or utilizing the company’s platform.
· Utilize open source, vendor tools, and social media to provide forward-looking analysis on geopolitical and protective intelligence issues with potential impact to client’s personnel, assets, operations and reputation.
· Understand, interrogate, and visualize high-quality data to draw analytic conclusions, identify trends and add additional context to analysis and reporting.
· Build and maintain awareness of the broader context and implications of the various types of risk affecting the business (e.g., financial, legal, reputation, etc.) while also tracking trends and signals of potential short- and long-term concern.
· Provide a customer-service oriented approach for the client and department, which may include availability to support incidents outside of normal working hours.
· Actively foster internal and external relationships to facilitate better information flow and understanding of the needs of the business including working with sector-specific information sharing groups, private-public partnerships, and company employees.
· Identifying intelligence pertinent to brewing regulatory, social and political trends, focusing on workforce safety.
· Train, mentor and coach junior analysts in both intelligence and investigative techniques and practices.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Bachelor's degree in intelligence, international business, journalism, law enforcement investigations or related field.
· Minimum five plus years of experience in intelligence and investigations, whether having served in the private or public sector, with a demonstrated track record of steadily expanded responsibilities.
· Experience with investigations, due diligence, investigative analysis, financial intelligence, public records searches, and utilizing programs like LexisNexis, Factiva and others to interpret business objectives.
· Excellent writing and editing skills, demonstrable ability to write concise reports suitable for a corporate executive audience.
· OSINT experience conducting research and intelligence investigations utilizing various tools including social media.
· Experience conducting behavioral threat assessments and investigations.
· Strong problem-solving skills, exceptionally organized, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
· Able to meet analytic deadlines and quick-thinking and responsiveness during crisis events.
· Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive data and information.
· A strong commitment to ethical private sector intelligence practices and ability to maintain confidentiality around security specific information.
· Must be able to work flexible schedule as required.
· Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening, if/as permitted by local law.
· Experience with Structured Professional Judgement tools like WAVR-21 and RAGE-V
· Familiarity with tools like Ontic, Silo, Smartsheets, Google Docs, Microsoft Office
· Ability to run pre-coded SQL queries
Working Hours: Role is a standard business hours position; however, as manager of a global team, the successful candidate will be required to work some early mornings or evenings to attend meetings or calls in other time zones. Remuneration: This role will be a full-time (40 hours per week) salaried position. Pay will be commensurate with experience.
