Position Overview:
This position allows the Occupational Therapist to promote development of sensory, gross motor and fine motor skills through in-class support, group lessons and during one-on one therapy services. Candidate will demonstrate strategies to assist in areas of occupation such as self-care, self-regulation, education, and leisure pursuits.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities, The Parish School
- Provide push-in, classroom-based services in language based early childhood classrooms (ages 2-5) that are designed to facilitate and integrate communication development into all areas of the curriculum.
- Function as a support to the primary case manager/lead teacher on a multi-disciplinary team that includes significant parent communication.
- Guide speech language pathologists and paraeducators in acquiring the knowledge and tools necessary to carry over therapeutic activities throughout the day.
- Plan, direct, and implement lessons to promote gross motor, fine motor, sensory and self-regulation skills utilizing the schools adopted curriculum.
- Prepare materials for class use and cleans and repairs materials at end of sessions.
- Conduct regular assessment of physical development as outlined by the school’s curriculum as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Review each student’s case history annually.
- Engage in coordination of care by:
- Contributing to student reporting three times per year as a part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Preparing for and participates in parent conferences a minimum of two times per year.
- Collaborating with case manager in preparation of student and family information for round table meetings twice per year.
- Planning and leading collaborative consultation team meetings as needed.
- Acting as a consultant and collaborates with professionals from other disciplines.
- Partnering with families to build positive home to school connections.
- Fulfill professional development requirements as outlined by the school.
- Organize and oversees Friday afternoon sports clinic for early childhood students.
Education/Experience:
Fifth year college or university program certificate; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates and Licenses:
Must have Occupational Therapist Licensure
Current CPR certification
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities
Computer Skills:
Highly proficient in MS Office applications, familiarity with Macintosh and Boardmaker® Online, familiarity with basic medical records systems.
