American Carrier Transport (ACT) is a drayage carrier and 3rd party logistics firm looking to for an experienced Intermodal (Drayage) Terminal Manager for our Houston, Dallas, and Chicago operation.
ACT specializes in handling international drayage and domestic intermodal shipments, project cargo, over dimensional, overweight containers, diversions, transloading, T/L, warehousing, shipper owned containers, LTL, and domestic logistics consultation & solutions.
We are looking for an experienced, highly organized, dynamic, and detail-oriented, self-starting Terminal Manager to join our fast-growing business. As a key decision maker for the operation you will be responsible for developing productive relationships with customers and carriers. You will also be responsible for daily execution of the pickups and delivery of containers, managing costs, and solving problems.
This includes managing the accuracy of load information within our transportation management system (TMS). You will also be responsible for tracking and tracing shipments, making appointments, and communicating to all stakeholders, ensuring service integrity. This position has a wide range of transportation related duties including operations pricing and quoting new business.
Daily Tasks & Responsibilities outline (to include, but may not be limited to):
- Facilitate and maintain regular communication with independent contractors, customers, and the corporate office to best utilize network optimization.
- Immediate and transparent communication with the customers on any and all shipments movements, delays, problems, or any other related issues without fail.
- Assist in Market Rate development, monitoring cost of service and contractor pay.
- Manage chassis inventories, daily use, billing, and invoice management to maximize revenues while managing costs.
- Maintain relationships with customers, Ports, SSL, rail terminals, Cys, depots, chassis pool management, and our corporate offices.
- Responsible for daily load management and advanced scheduling to ensure that loads are serviced properly and on time.
- Rail billing of loads with correct routing information.
- Update and resolve incidents, routinely.
- Utilize intermodal and ocean carrier tracking tools to ensure loads are tracked and updated in timely manner.
- Proactively identify potential issues and create appropriate solutions; escalate as needed.
- Manage accessorials objectively while maximizing profit.
- Ensure receipts, invoices, TIRs, and PODs are received from contractors in a timely manner and sent to customers as requested.
- Prioritize and respond to both internal and external requests in a timely, effective, and professional manner.
- Maintain an up to date understanding of market trends, conditions and industry standards / projections.
- Manages freight levels, coordinates with other terminals
- Solicits new business, provide rate quotes and negotiates rates
- Recruiting of contractors to increase fleet size in order to provide the service levels expected by our customers
- Manage the retention of contractors by addressing problems with pay, dispatch, or any other related problems that may cause a contractor to leave
- Works with all independent contractors, explains requirements and expectations to new applicants resolves settlement, dispatch, and safety issues
- Maintains office and yard to keep both environments clean and safe.
- Trains new employees on all facets of their jobs and ensures they have the tools needed to do their jobs.
- Monitor and records employee attendance/time off and coordinates schedules to ensure proper coverage.
- Manages profitability through maximizing revenue and minimizing expenses
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university preferred but not required.
- 2 years’ experience with Intermodal/Drayage modes of transportation in transportation operations preferred.
- Proficiency with transportation management systems.

Pay is commensurate with experience and ability.
