Monday through Friday 7:30 AM-4:30 PM (extended hours may occur during inspections in Feb/March)
Diesel Mechanic Primary responsibilities
- Perform accurate Preventative Maintenance inspections in accordance with required schedule and policy.
- Collect DVIR forms from buses/managers-communicate to manager if driver’s are not filling DVIRs out correctly
- Perform and diagnose issues and perform vehicle repairs (e.g. adjust/test steering, electrical, cooling, lubricating, braking systems, suspensions, power steering units, transmissions and oil, temperature, gas regulating components.) and related assigned duties within qualification level, in accordance with all relevant Federal, State and local guidelines and requirements. Test-drive vehicles to ensure repair resolved the problem.
- Arranges for and obtains appropriate inspections and approval of all major repairs before vehicle is released from maintenance shop.
- Places buses in and out of service
- Maintains a safe, clean, productive and efficient work area including ensuring work area is in compliance with all relevant Federal, State and local guidelines and requirements.
- Identifies and reports any additional maintenance and/or repairs found necessary in conducting assigned repairs and maintenance including repairs and maintenance required to be performed.
- Completes reports on time, mileage, and repairs and/or maintenance conducted on appropriate forms.
- Advises management of unsafe maintenance conditions or practices.
- Perform unscheduled maintenance as needed
- Carefully maintain and be accountable for all parts and equipment.
- Document repairs and parts on work orders completely and accurately.
- Follow Wheel Retorque Policies and Procedures
- Maintain tools and workplace so that shop conditions are safe, clean and organized.
- Communicate effectively with management
- Always maintain a respectful attitude and professional code of conduct with everyone you come into contact with.
Employees Supervised: None (unless Manager/Technician position)
Report to: Director of Maintenance/General Manager (Maintenance Technician Issues)
Qualifications & Requirements
- Diagnostic skills are required.
- Possess the recommended minimum hand tools for a diesel technician.
- a Class B CDL with School bus and Passenger endorsements & DOT medical certification
- Must be able to pass pre-employment background and drug screen.
- Reliable attendance.
- Ability to receive and carry out instructions to perform work.
