This is a fulltime positon doing Ortho with a great group of Surgons in Nashville.
Summary
The Surgical First Assistant provides aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure and other intra-operative technical functions. The Surgical First Assistant may also perform preoperative and postoperative duties to facilitate patient care.
Responsibilities
- Assist in moving and positioning patient
- Reviewing permit to confirm procedure
- Responsible for ensuring appropriate equipment is available
- Providing assistance throughout the procedure in a variety of surgical techniques.
- Verifies all implants, supplies, and special procedure equipment are available and functional. (i.e. microscope, tourniquet, etc.
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate the surgeon’s preferences and specific patient’s needs to the surgical team including but not limited to suture needs, specialty supplies and instrumentation, and equipment.
- Demonstrate the ability to apply advanced knowledge of normal and pathological surgical anatomy and physiology.
- Describes the assessment and management of acute trauma. Responds appropriately to emergency conditions.
- Monitors the actions immediately surrounding the sterile field ensuring that the integrity is maintained and/or corrected appropriately.
- Ensures x-rays and applicable diagnostic exams are available for the surgeon.
- Ensures skin prep will provide the necessary exposure for the surgical procedure, any possible drain sites, and/or possible extension(s) of the operative incision, as well as surgeon preference.
- Utilizes the OR equipment pertinent to the surgical procedure.
- The surgical assistant should be capable of working independently, or co-dependently with the surgeon, to finalize the surgery, according to the surgeon's preference.
Qualifications for this role:
- You are a graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited program in surgical assisting and attain the CSFA credential administrated by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting
- BLS certification
- You are a Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA)
- You have one year experience in an operating room setting, preferably in Orthopedics.
- You have a valid BCLS Certification upon employment***online certification not acceptable.
