Bilingual Legal Assistant
No Experience Required
The Legal Assistant is critical in our pre-litigation and litigation process at Morris & Dewett. We seek a smart, career-minded individual to join our legal assistant team. Our firm is growing fast, and the number of cases we manage has exploded, especially cases involving Spanish-speaking clients. Our Bilingual Legal Assistant will help facilitate the communication between our lawyers and ensure that our non-English speaking clients fully understand the legal process.
Personality Traits Needed for Success
- Communicator – A successful legal assistant will have clear and pleasant phone interfacing skills and polished, understandable writing skills in English and Spanish.
- Organizer – A successful legal assistant will be able to manage their schedule and tasks to maximize their time and ensure information can be found quickly and easily.
- Detailed – The legal assistant job depends on working on a detailed task-based process from opening a case to its resolution. Papers must be filed, notices sent, communications recorded, and detailed notes must be taken as part of the legal process.

Skill Proficiency
A candidate must be proficient in these skills.
- Microsoft Office: PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Ability to type and ten-key.
- Answering phones, communicating with clients while typing, and note taking.
- Experience with litigation management or case management software is preferred but not required.
- Ability to Multitask
- Ability to read, write, and speak in English and Spanish at a collegiate level.
- Notary is a plus but not required
Job Responsibilities and Requirements

- Perform screening of clients and gain initial intake information
- Greet clients and maintain and enhance relationships both in person and over the phone
- Effective communication with witnesses, vendors, partners, colleagues, and other service providers
- Perform case research, document search, and gather case intelligence
- Coordinate records requests, including but not limited to medical records.
- Coordinate and follow up on treatment and client needs
- Organize case files and update case records.
- Execute tasks and our task flow system from case origination to closure
- Coordinate and facilitate meetings and trial calendar
- Scheduling and coordinating depositions
- Retaining Experts in Coordination with the Attorneys
- Following up with unanswered phone callbacks
- Assist attorneys in drafting correspondence, pleadings, motions, and appellate documents and file them with the court
- Aid attorneys with interrogatories and other discovery requests
