The Madeira School is seeking Staff Nurses to join its Health and Wellness Center. The Staff Nurse will provide preventative health services to facilitate the students’ physical, mental, emotional and social growth and development. This position runs year round. Schedule: Monday - Friday. Includes some holidays and occasional evening/weekends. During the summer days and hours may shift.
The Madeira School is an independent boarding and day school that educates girls in grades 9-12. The scenic 376-acre campus is just 10 miles from Washington, DC. Core responsibilities include:
- Integrates knowledge, skills, and clinical experience to meet the needs of high school students, their families, and the community
- Provides care for well, injured and ill students, which may include COVID-19 cases
- Utilizes standards and guidelines for care delivery
- Provides individualized patient education
- Serves as clinical resource
- Coordinates care for students with outside medical professionals
- Drives student to off-campus medical care; acts as the student’s advocate; serves as the liaison between the provider and the student/student’s family
- Maintains student and camper confidential files and records
- Uses and adapts to a wide array of technology as tools to support the Health and Wellness Program; actively updates computer and software skills
- Provides courteous and appropriate communication with students, parents, faculty and staff
- Active and positive member of the broader school community, building relationships across departments and supporting the Residential Life program
Note: Physical demands of this job include: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant finger dexterity. This job is performed under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
Requirements:
- Degree from accredited school of nursing
- Registered Nurse in Virginia or multi-state privilege
- First Aid/CPR/AED Certified
- Adolescent/Triage experience preferred
- Valid driver’s license required
- Strong interpersonal, communication, analytical and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of team
- Ability to work in both the well-child area as well as the area for students with health concerns which may include COVID-19
- Ability to innovate, problem solve and think creatively
- Ability to use and adapt to a wide-array of technology as tools to support the Health and Wellness Program; familiarity with Magnus Health a plus
- Be a practitioner of diversity, equity and inclusion

- Ability to support the residential program; ability to work occasional evening/weekend
