Location: Atlanta, Georgia; in-office (24 hours a week) with partial work from home ability
Reports to: Deputy Director

About CAIR Georgia:
CAIR-Georgia is the Georgia chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest civil liberties and advocacy group serving the Muslim community. Our mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, protect civil liberties, and empower Muslims in America to advocate for themselves. From restrictions placed on Muslims to practice their religion, to profiling and discrimination stemming from a lack of understanding of Islam, the need for CAIR in Georgia is great. The proof is reflected in the dramatic increase in civil rights cases by 250% from 2007 to 2013. CAIR-Georgia strives to ensure that Muslims in Georgia enjoy the same protections that all Americans have.
The Opportunity:
CAIR-Georgia seeks a creative, committed, and organized professional to fill the Communications Coordinator position to enhance, streamline, and strengthen CAIR-Georgia’s communications within the Georgia Muslim and wider communities. The Communications Coordinator will join one of the most dynamic teams defending civil rights on behalf of the American Muslim community.
Responsibilities:

Understand and assist in streamlining organizational communications goals through the end of contract period

Write press releases

Attend events on behalf of CAIR-Georgia and accompany other staff to work engagements to stream, document, film, or photograph events

Create and manage a posting calendar for CAIR-Georgia social media

Develop social media campaigns to amplify and assist CAIR-Georgia programs and functions

Develop content – graphics, posts, print materials etc. for CAIR-Georgia education, event, fundraising, and election campaigns

Streamline social media messaging across platforms

Social media engagement for duration of contract period

Attend community outreach events and tabling as needed

Assist in executing the goals of the Communications department including but not limited to amplifying the work of other CAIR Georgia departments

Assist the CAIR-Georgia team in other tasks as they arise

Periodic evenings and weekends required for videography, photo documentation, presentations, and community outreach events
Qualifications:
-
B.A/M.A in Mass Communication, Journalism, Media, or similar

Creative, results-oriented, self-starting, and willing to learn

Strong multitasking skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Demonstrated experience in drafting and running mail and social media awareness campaigns

Demonstrated experience in email and digital marketing

Demonstrated experience in writing press releases and memos
-
Basic graphic design experience and ability to send briefs to graphic designers

Ability to conduct research and synthesize information for effective messaging

Ability to track and document social media analytics

Experience of working collaboratively with individuals and organizations from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds and a broad range of ideological positions and religious views

Commitment to the mission and goals of CAIR Georgia

Understanding and connection to the Georgia Muslim community preferred

Understanding of American Muslim communities and the political landscape and voter concerns in Georgia are preferred
