Job Summary
The Director of Purchasing is responsible for developing and executing purchasing strategies for goods and services, tracking metrics, negotiating deals, and managing vendors. They collaborate with stakeholders, forecast market trends, and ensure clear requirements documentation. Their role involves analyzing costs, mitigating risks, and determining optimal delivery of services.
The position requires strong leadership capabilities, negotiation skills, and analytical abilities. They should be familiar with sourcing and vendor management within a corporate environment, possess business sense, and be proficient in gathering data. Additionally, they should have decision-making skills and be proficient in vendor management software.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop, lead, and execute procurement strategies that meet the needs of the organization.

Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness.

Identify and evaluate potential suppliers and services, negotiate contracts, and place orders for goods and services.

Partner with stakeholders to ensure clear requirements documentation.

Forecast price and market trends to identify changes of balance in buyer-supplier power.

Perform cost and scenario analysis and benchmarking.

Assess, manage, and mitigate risks.

Seek and partner with reliable vendors and suppliers.

Determine quantity and timing of delivery and service.

Ensure purchasing policies and procedures are followed throughout the organization.

Prepare and maintain reports on purchasing activity, including cost savings and supplier performance.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, supply chain management, or related field.
Qualifications and Experience

5+ years of experience as Purchasing Manager, Agent, or Officer.

Familiarity with sourcing and vendor management.

Interest in market dynamics along with a strong business acumen.

Supervisory Responsibility
The position has no direct reports.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The noise level in the work environment is low.
