Job Description:
Are you passionate about mathematics education and committed to fostering a dynamic learning environment? We are seeking a dedicated middle and high school math teacher to join our team and inspire young minds in the exploration of mathematical concepts.
If you are committed to the pursuit of human excellence in every academic and cultural field, please apply by submitting your resume and cover letter detailing your qualifications and teaching philosophy.
Responsibilities:
1. Implementing Engaging Lessons: Develop and deliver interactive math lessons with high quality, teacher-educative curriculum materials that promote critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and conceptual understanding among students.
2. Utilizing the 5 Practices for Orchestrating Productive Mathematics Discussions: Create a classroom environment that encourages mathematical discourse and collaboration among students, utilizing the five practices framework to guide discussions effectively.
3. Fostering Group Work: Structure activities from the given curriculum that emphasize cooperative learning, allowing students to collaborate, communicate, and learn from one another in small groups.
4. Promoting Thinking Classrooms: Foster a classroom culture that values curiosity, exploration, and multiple approaches to problem-solving, aligning with the philosophy of building thinking classrooms. This approach includes a variety of teaching techniques, such as using manipulatives to enhance conceptual learning, implementing Number Talks to deepen students’ number sense, and utilizing high-quality supplemental curriculum materials to connect learned concepts to high-cognitive demand tasks provided in advanced supplemental materials such as the Art of Problem Solving.
5. Emphasizing Depth of Learning: Prioritize conceptual understanding over rote memorization, ensuring students develop a deep comprehension of mathematical concepts rather than simply mastering algorithms or procedures.
6. Adapting Curriculum: Tailor instructional materials and activities to meet students' diverse needs while aligning with the school's curriculum standards and goals.
7. Assessing Student Progress: Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student learning, identify areas for growth, and provide timely feedback with regular communication to students and parents.
8. Additional Duties as a Teacher: Keep accurate records and complete requested reports or documents. Attend school events that may occur outside of normal hours, such as open houses and special school events. Maintain knowledge of and implement school policies outlined in the faculty and student handbooks, including, but not limited to, dress code and behavior expectations.
9. Professional Development: Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth by staying abreast of current research and best practices in mathematics education and actively participating in professional development opportunities.
10. Values: Fully embrace and support the school’s dedication to its community, classical education vision and values.
The outlined responsibilities are essential functions but do not exclude or restrict the performance of other tasks expected of educators.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, Mathematics, or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
