Summary of Position: Will assist with upkeep and maintenance of AARS structures, grounds, stock, and greenhouse. Will function as repair person, treatment client work coach, group leader and trainer. Will drive AARS vehicles and oversee clients assigned jobs / chores, and maintenance work in progress. Assist with donation runs and donation pick-ups. Able to operate farm equipment, providing routine maintenance when needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the Ranch Foreman in caring for animals and gardens, harvesting crops and haying, cleaning, and repairing pens, instructing clients on animal care, feeding and watering, and other related duties as assigned.
- Inform Ranch Foreman when supplies are needed.
- Complete documentation on the client’s progress and submits it to the client’s counselor weekly.
- Assist the Ranch Foreman in the general maintenance of the facility, complete minor repairs on buildings, grounds, plumbing problems, etc.
- Answer the telephone and door, greet the public, and inventory all donations that are received at AARS, as needed; other clerical duties as assigned.
- Assist with work groups and recreation trips, as assigned.
- Check on outbuilding, animals, and monitors security system.
- As assigned, drive AARS vehicles for pick-ups, deliveries, shopping trips, dump runs, client transports, and other necessary errands.
- Operate farm equipment gas AARS vehicles and check the oil, complete related paperwork.
- Learn various jobs at AARS to fill in for staff on vacations, holidays, and emergencies. (Depends on activity)
- Participate in all Staff and AARS meetings or listen to tapes of staff meetings within 72 hours.
- May assist with monitoring of client medication, log all such actions.
- Participate in evaluation of job performance.
- Learn and maintain confidentiality of client information within Federal and State guidelines.
- Required to read all policies and procedures manuals AARS and pass exam.
- Be required to read all AARS Policy and Procedure manuals and pass exams.
- Assure client confidentiality according to State and Federal guidelines.
- Will be responsible to be on-call for all emergencies that arise at AARS, which may include but not be limited to: Power outages, Earthquakes, and Water and sewage issues.
- Assume other duties as directed.
Qualifications, Skills, Abilities, and Experience
- Prefer a minimum of one-year experience in alcohol and/or drug abuse inpatient treatment program.
- Prefer knowledge of Alaska Native cultures.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to work with handicapped individuals and lift 50 pounds.
- Legible handwriting / printing.
- Prefer experience with public inebriates.
- Prefer resident of Mat-Su Borough.
- Knowledge of farm (haying and haying equipment), greenhouse operations, and animal husbandry.
- Ability to relate to people and communicate effectively with people verbally and in writing.
- Be a self-starter, work without close supervision, and be able to learn new skills.
- Some knowledge of general maintenance and ability to know when to call in a professional.
- Knowledge of Farm Equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Be familiar with the 12 Step AA Recovery Program / Philosophy.
- Must have a current TB test (obtainable within the first 30 days of employment); Current First Aid / CPR Cards (obtainable within the first 90 days of employment); Initial COVID vaccinations, provide vaccination card as proof; and A valid Alaska Driver’s License, with a good driving record and insurable.
- Must be able to pass the mandated criminal background check with an allowance for a variance.

- Has the ability to enforce client rules.
- Preferred: Familiar with Alaska Native culture; resident of Mat-Su Valley; experience working with handicapped; some experience with social service agencies; good team worker who can relate well with fellow workers; able to relate to alcoholics, drug abusers, and public inebriates, and familiar with AA / NA treatment philosophies.
- Must be a person who is free from allergies, which would interfere with daily AARS life.
- May be a resident of the Mat-Su Borough and a person with knowledge of Alaska Native Cultures, both of which are preferred.
- Has maintained sobriety for at least one (1) year if a recovered alcoholic / drug-abuser.

Pay: From $20.00 per hour
