Overall Purpose Of The Job
This is a unique research opportunity focusing on neurological symptoms of the acute phase of anomalous health incidents around the world. The study focuses on US citizens both abroad and domestically who have experienced unique traumatic brain injuries.
The neurologist selected for this position will be splitting their time between a retrospective study and a rapid response research team.
Key Responsibilities
Rapid Response Research Team
- The travel research team will respond to reports of anomalous health incidents around the world.
- Because this is a study of the acute phase, the travel team must perform the first exams within 72 hours of the identified incident. The research team needs to be extremely flexible, able to travel internationally or domestically with little to no notice (12-50 hours).
Retrospective Study
- When not travelling, the research team will be conducting exams and analyzing data as part of a retrospective study.
Neurologists with direct patient care and neurologists with research experience will be considered. Candidates with both direct patient care and research experience are preferred. Specialization in traumatic brain injuries is preferred.
Job Profile
Basic Requirements/Certifications:
- Active passport, valid for at least 6 months
- US Citizen
- Full Unrestricted License (preferred not required)
- Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)
- 2-year minimum experience as a neurologist in either direct patient care or research setting
- Experience with traumatic brain injuries (in either a direct patient care or research setting) is strongly preferred
Education Required:
- Completion of an accredited medical school leading to a Doctor of Medicine (MD). Completion of an accredited residency or specialization program in neurology is required and an emphasis on traumatic brain injuries is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
- Travel assignments can be physically taxing. Candidates must be up to the rigor of long-distance international travel.
- May require bending, stooping and lifting to 20 lbs.
Other Special Qualifications:
- US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.
- Located in the DC, Maryland, Virgina area is preferred but not required. There is the potential for remote work.
- DEA license preferred
- Travel experience, preferably travel for work. Extensive personal travel experience is also a bonus.
- Prior Military experience is also preferable
