The Human Resource Generalist will perform the daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department including onboarding, training, administering leaves of absence, and enforcing company policies and practices. The Human Resources Generalist will utilize the department databases to ensure all employee records are up-to-date and confidential, along with assisting and advising management on HR related issues or topics. An important part of this role will include performing regulatory compliance and reporting to support the day-to-day operations of the Human Resource department. The Human Resource Generalist will create and distribute internal communications regarding status changes, benefits, or company policies. This is an on-site role; therefore, the ideal candidate should be local to Los Angeles.
Responsibilities
- Coordinating orientation schedules of staff new hires and leading orientation for all new hires.
- Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications
- Partnering with the Talent Management department on office recruiting, assisting in drafting and editing job descriptions, and performing reference checks for new hires
- Implements new hire orientation and employee recognition programs
- Managing timekeeping activities for the office including following up with managers and supervisors to ensure all timecards are approved, answering routine questions about timekeeping and ADP, and ensuring FLSA standards are met
- Acting as a point of contact in the office for general questions regarding Paid Time Off (PTO), PTO accrual policies. Route in depth inquiries to payroll as needed.
- Provide training and guidance to management on company policies, processes, and best practices.
- Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, leave of absence administration, productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development
- Assist the Senior Generalist with complaints intake, investigations, disciplinary action, performance management, and dispute resolution.
- Act as a point of contact for human resources questions from attorneys, paralegals and staff in the office. Understand a majority of the human resources policies of the firm and displaying the ability to answer most questions independently. Use appropriate judgment to route complex questions and issues to appropriate resources and following-up to ensure the issue is resolved in a timely manner
- Collaborating with the department to assist with the performance review process, scheduling secretarial coverage, and conducting exit interviews
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law
Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in HR/ Business or related field required. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- At least 3-5 years Human Resources experience required
- Leave of absence administration experience required
- SHRM, PHR, CPLP, or other equivalent Human Resource Certification a plus
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
- Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
- Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Proficiency with Human Resource Information System (HRIS) and Talent Management Systems
