Local Delivery Truck Driver Job Summary
We are seeking new applicants for the role of dependable local delivery truck driver with excellent customer service skills. As a part of our delivery team, you will be responsible for driving the company vehicle on a planned route to ensure deliveries are made on time. You will also assist in the loading and unloading process of goods. Previous warehouse and delivery experience are preferred, and a clean driving record is required.
Local Delivery Truck Driver Duties and Responsibilities
- Fully understand how to operate and safely drive your assigned company vehicle
- Drive vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) under 26,000 lbs.
- Transport pallet goods and packages from a place of origin to assigned destination
- Pick-up loads and organize goods in an ordered, logical manner
- Ensure contents are properly secured inside of the truck to prevent breakage or damage
- Safely and efficiently handle and unload goods from a truck at selected destinations
- Obtain signatures or warehouse scans to confirm and complete deliveries with clients
- Assist warehouse staff and customers with loading and unloading processes
- Map delivery routes to ensure timely deliveries
- Interact with local customers, answer questions, and advise them on our services
- Communicate traffic reports, delays, etc. to dispatch as needed
- Confirm contents of each shipment load matches the manifest document
- Perform inspections of your vehicle prior to and following each trip
- Always ensure your vehicle is kept clean
- Maintain and service vehicle as needed (refuel, change oil, tire pressure, repairs, etc.)
- Notify managers of any major maintenance or delivery issues encountered
- Maintain detailed and organized paperwork
- Track and report working hours and schedule with dispatch/supervisors
- Adhere to company rules and regulations
- Obey all applicable traffic laws and drive in according to the weather/road conditions
- Comply with ICC and DOT regulations
- Make safety a priority at all times
Local Delivery Truck Driver Requirements and Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent, preferred
- Valid driver's license, required
- Commercial driver’s license (CDL) only for tractor operation
- Experience driving a large company van or box truck preferred
- Clean driving record with no moving violations
- Must pass a background check and drug test
- Skilled and confident driver
- Comfortable maneuvering and parking a large vehicle
- Alert, focused, and detail-oriented
- Physically and mentally fit
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. at a time
- Experience using pallet jacks and forklifts
- Proficient using GPS or other routing systems
- An innate sense of direction
- Disciplined, dependable, and resourceful
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong verbal communicator
- Available Monday through Friday, with occasional after hour and weekend
