Into The Streets Greener Assistant
Who We Are
Into The Streets is a San Francisco-based cultural production studio dedicated to bringing people together in the streets to realize a more just, joyous, and environmentally regenerative world. We’re ready to mentor the next generation of event producers and new cultural makers seeking professional event experience to make magic happen in the streets. As part of a small, woman-run organization, all Production Team members will have opportunities for professional development in every aspect of event planning, production, and financing.

Greening Staff play key roles in helping us run safe and welcoming events while reducing our impacts to the environment . If you are enthusiastic about waste diversion, reliable, and enjoy working in a dynamic environment with many different people, this is the team for you!
Shifts for the 2024 season will be made available to hired Greening Staff. Please note that being hired as Greening Staff does not guarantee assignment to shifts. 2024 season assignments will be based on availability and need.
Job Classification and Compensation:
- Part-time, seasonal, non–exempt employee status
- $28.00 / hour dependent on successful completion of training and demonstration of abilities
Schedule and Term:
- Regular evening and weekend shifts are required during the season, which runs from April to December 2024
- Green Team shifts range from 4-12 hours with unpaid and paid State and Federally-mandated breaks
- The interview process consists of a 30-minute virtual interview followed by an in-person interview.
What You’ll Do
Into The Streets, Production Team will be responsible for collectively overseeing the following production areas. Final event-day roles will be assigned based on experience, interests, and the needs of the production.
Job Responsibilities
- BEFORE EVENT
- Setting up 3-stream waste stations and green team stations throughout the event footprint
- DURING EVENT
- Greening of the event by thoroughly and consistently sorting compost, landfill waste, and recyclables
- Hauling trash bags to the green team sorting station
- Ensuring 3-stream bins are maintained throughout the event footprint
- Helping to lessen littering as directed by the Green Team Supervisor
- Supporting with additional tasks as needed and directed by the Green Team Supervisor
- AFTER EVENT
- Final sorting of all compost, landfill waste, and recyclables
- Breaking down 3-stream waste stations and green team station
Here’s What You’ll Need to Join the Team
Essential:
- Willingness to work outdoors, ability to lift 50 lbs and don’t mind getting dirty
- Must have an active email address, mobile phone, and ability to confirm and record shifts online (ideally from a smartphone)
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and a friendly demeanor
- Ability to work with diverse stakeholders including volunteers, staff, and city personnel
- High level of cultural competence with minority communities
- A deep commitment to Into The Streets’ mission

Highly Desired:
- Age 25 or older with a valid California driver’s license and no recent accidents or moving violations; Experience driving a 26’ box truck
- Experience with waste management at special events within Recology San Francisco guidelines
- Conversational fluency in Cantonese or Spanish
- Currently a resident of San Francisco or possessing a deep history and relationships with its communities
