Shift - 11pm - 7am
The maintenance technician is responsible to safely assist in the day-to-day operation of the maintenance department. This involves performing periodic inspections of equipment and machinery as required and carrying out repairs and maintenance of the building, equipment, and machinery. This position will perform preventative maintenance and assist with the preventative maintenance performed by others. Position reports to the plant engineer.
Department
The maintenance and engineering department is charged with controlling all repairs and preventative maintenance within the facility. The department is required to work with the operations coordinator, shift leaders, as well as other employees and outside contractors to provide maintenance and repairs on a timely basis with minimal production downtime, while controlling costs and maintaining Glencore safety policies and procedures.
Specific Accountabilities
- Work in a safety-conscious manner adhering to all safety policies.
- Perform periodic inspections, as required.
- Work with the operations coordinator and plant engineer to establish task priorities and effective timeframes
- Complete preventative maintenance and repairs in a timely manner
- Work with management to control and reduce maintenance and repair costs
- Monitor inventory of consumables and place orders with vendors as necessary
- Ensure company policies are implemented and maintained.
- Ensure tools and equipment are kept in operable form.
- Keep maintenance area clean
Dimensions
- Minimum 1-3 years mechanical experience or entry level opportunity for qualified candidates with a mechanical background.
- Possess good planning and interpersonal skills
- Capable of solving problems with short and long term solutions to mechanical problems
- Be able to react in an environment with changing priorities
- Proficient with hand and power tools
- Operate a forklift in a safe an effective manner
- Experienced in general welding techniques: cutting, grinding, and fabrication of small parts and performing weld repairs.
- Prior use and repair experience with pneumatic and hydraulic powered tools and equipment.
- Basic blueprint reading skill with the ability to sketch out concepts
- Prior experience and training in Hot Work, Confined Space Entry, Lock Out/Tag Out, and Personal Protection Equipment
- Basic writing and computer skills in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Electrical experience, control voltage, and trouble shooting circuits experience a plus
- Knowledge of industrial ventilation systems, baghouse and cartridge filter collectors a plus
- Must be able to wear a respirator (test required)
- Must pass routine physical exam and drug screening
Working Conditions
The job calls for working in an industrial plant. Noise, dust and heat exposure are common, so the use of proper personal protective equipment is a must (hearing protection, safety boots, safety glasses, gloves, dust mask and hard hat). The incumbent must be alert and aware of his surroundings at all times. Overtime may be required under some circumstances, both in longer days and weekend work.
