The position of the Business Development Associate supports business development ventures for J&A Freight Systems by servicing existing customers, and soliciting new customers. This position supplies customers with superior customer service, including competitive and precise rate quotations and accurate shipment information. The Business Development Associate researches potential customers and pursues qualified prospects. An added duty in this role involves preparing Customer Service Representatives for successful Business Development careers through mentorship. All assignments should be completed utilizing effective company core processes and strategies in order to maximize profitability and minimize transportation costs will be. Finally, compensation in a salary PLUS commissions environment provides the Business Development for tremendous earnings potential.
Task & Duties
Scheduling: Provide customers with detailed and accurate information in regards to warehouse schedules and requirements. Schedule warehouse appointments, notice calls, and shipping/receiving hours.
Prospecting: Research various companies involved in the transportation of raw materials and finished products.
Soliciting: Actively pursue suitable prospects in an effort to provide profitable transportation services. Set forth annual goals regarding the number of prospective customers to solicit, and the methodology used for successful solicitation.
Rate Quotation: Calculate mileage and costs of requested lanes and freight amounts. Provide rates to prospective/current customers.
Load Management: Obtain current shipment status and accurately monitor the progression of the shipment.
Shipment Entry: Receive accurate, detailed and specific information from the customer pertaining to each tendered shipment and enter into Transportation Management System (TMS).
Processing Claims: Inform CSR/customer of any overages, shortage or damage as notated on bills of lading (BOL). Collect information regarding claims including BOL, proof of delivery, invoiced amount of claimed goods, and supporting pictures/documentation.
Mentoring: Educate CSR (Customer Service Representative) on various techniques used to solicit and retain customers.
Customer Service: Provide resolutions for various transportation related issues that may arise. Remain available and responsive to all customers throughout the day.
Invoice Verification: Confirm the accuracy of all invoices sent to customers, and verify that back-up paperwork, including bills of lading, are accurate and free of any damage or shortage not already notated on the load.
General Office Coordination: Answer phones, file, ensure customer files are current, data entry, and obtain proof of delivery.
