Metal-tech 4x4 designs and builds high quality off-road products for Toyota, Lexus and Ford 4x4’s using state of the art 3D scanning and CAD tools. Our company creates products for the Land Cruiser, FJ Cruiser, 4Runner, Lexus LX and GX models, Tacoma, Tundra, and the Ford Bronco. We engineer, design, and manufacture bumpers, sliders, roll cages, tube fenders, suspension components and more.
In addition, Metal-tech 4x4 specializes in high performance suspension systems for most Toyota and Lexus 4x4’s. Based in the city of Newberg, just outside of Portland Oregon, we distribute across the US and internationally in over 40 different countries.
This job has the opportunity to be trained for a Lead position.
Responsibilities
- Weld small and large components
- Production welding
- Use portable grinder, hand file, and/or scraper when necessary
- Use precision measuring tools to inspect grooves and angles
- Maintain proper equipment
- Conduct tests to check weld quality
- Weld parts in flat, vertical, and/or overhead positions
- Interpret drawings and plans; carry out work accordingly
- Produce templates and other work aids
- Reading blueprints and drawings and taking measurements to plan layout and procedures
- Determining the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
- Setting up components for welding according to specifications
- Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded
- Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces
- Use specialized machinery for industrial welding and oversee machines that perform the same job.
- Maintain and repair all machinery.
- Assess welded surfaces, structures and components to identify errors.
- Follow and enforce strict safety regulations such as wearing heat-resistant gloves, protective masks, and safety shoes.
- Monitor machinery for appropriate usage and temperature.
- Perform MIG mainly and other types of weld based on project needs
- De-bur and grind metal as necessary to achieve proper surface texture
Required work experience
- Day shift, working 5x8hr days, full benefits
- Proven experience as welder, preferably production welding.
- Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures
- Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
- Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.)
- Excellent knowledge of welding machinery, electrical equipment, and manual tools.
- Outstanding attention to detail.
Skills
- 3+ years’ experience operating as a commercial welder
- Professional current and valid Certification (e.g. an AWS welding certificate) will be a plus.
- Proficient in English
Education
- High school diploma/GED preferred
- Ability to read blueprints
- Ability to do basic math
- Basic understanding of electricity
Position Summary:
The Welder primary responsibility is MIG production welding. There is opportunity for training to be moved into a Lead position. There is also opportunity to learn how to program and run a high end robot welder. Other opportunities for learning and growth can be available for the right candidate.
Each job must be run with safety, accuracy and timeliness. This position works in a production environment with the risk of injury. Some safety equipment must be worn when working with equipment in the shop. Bending, lifting and pushing up to 70 pounds is required. Operate fork lift, if required and trained. Reports directly to the shift supervisor. Daily interaction with operations/operators; gains the trust and respect of the shift supervisor, co-workers and other employees; develops good working relationships with the shift supervisor, co-workers and other employees. Develops working knowledge of the production environment and has ability to respond to change. Position requires good mathematical ability.
