Broadcast Engineer
Location: Washington, DC
HOW YOU WILL IMPACT THE BIG PICTURE:
The Broadcast Engineer will support all Technical operations in EWTN News’s fast-paced global news facility in Washington DC. This position involves troubleshooting, maintaining, installing, and general support of Television Broadcast, Post-Production, IT, Studio, and Field/Newsgathering systems in D.C., and connecting to Irondale, AL.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Provides maintenance and support for off-site remote locations including the White House, Capitol Hill, etc.
- Troubleshoots, repairs, and provides preventative maintenance of television broadcast equipment, servers, Power/HVAC Infrastructure, and IT networks in a Mission-Critical environment.
- Maintains awareness of new and emerging technologies, trends, and potential applications/risks for integration projects; use data to ensure compliance with all required safety, technical, and best practice standards.
- Oversees and executes simultaneous technical projects, vendor relationships, and third-party support, ensuring successful project completions.
- Works closely with Engineering Manager to identify and execute conceptual and detailed designs of Infrastructure systems and Integrations.
- Assists with documentation, inventory, and organization of all equipment, systems, workflows, and data.
- Participates in equipment evaluation, selection, and testing; offers relevant ideas and suggestions for consideration.
- Provides technical expertise for various systems and equipment and assists in the day-to-day support of those systems and equipment as needed.
- Serves on essential personnel team to ensure effective business continuity at all times.
ABOUT YOU:
- Minimum of 2 - 4 years of prior experience in broadcast television or related field, preferably in newsroom environment.
- Affinity for EWTN’s mission and understanding of the Catholic Faith.
- Demonstrated Knowledge of Enterprise-level broadcast systems, such as Routing, Switching, Tally, Automation, NRCS, MAM/PAM, Post-Production, Camera, Robotics, Lighting/DMX, Conference room, Teleprompter, Multiviewer, Playback, Ingest, Encoding, Captioning, etc.
- Proficient with broadcast-grade cable assemblies; Ability to test, maintain, pull, terminate, and repair relevant copper/fiber enclosures and assemblies.
- Strong knowledge of Broadcast Audio principles; experience with Dante, AES, Analog, embedded signals preferred.
- Proven ability to successfully troubleshoot, interpret, and diagnose operational, technical, and design issues.
- Exceptional time management skills to manage various projects simultaneously and meet all established deadlines.
- Must be able to read and understand technical drawings, labels, and manuals; demonstrates a meticulous level of attention to detail.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule outside of normal business hours, including morning, nights, and weekends, as needed.
- Physically able to lift 50 lbs. or more on a regular basis; ability to be mobile, work at heights, on ladders, and in confined spaces.
- Visual color perception is required for accurate Quality Control of wiring, video signals, and streams.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Working knowledge of IP infrastructure and related Broadcast applications.
- Component level testing and repair.
Applied Knowledge of Computer Science, such as Scripting/Coding, Visual logic, CLI, Putty/Telnet - - Windows, Mac, Linux, Pi operating systems.
- Knowledge of Post-Production editing applications and workflows. Video Codecs, Transcoding, file delivery, NAS Storage, Archival, Captioning, etc.
- Experience with ENG and EFP Camera systems, grip, lighting equipment.
- Prior experience designing, installing, and maintaining professional broadcast systems.
