Job Description:
Bunker Hill Community College is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Associate Director of the BHCC Student Central. Reporting to the Director of Student Central, the Associate Director will assist the Director in overseeing the center supporting students with student payment, financial aid, and registration services all in one, multi-service location on campus with a corresponding virtual environment on the college website. The role has a highly visible presence within the Bunker Hill Community College Community and the candidate must possess a willingness and talent to engage students, staff, faculty and the BHCC Administration in formal and informal settings. The Associate Director will play a key role in supporting the Student Central that delivers in-person services, self-service, email and phone assistance.
The Associate Director will have a proven track record of cooperating with colleagues and working with students to address concerns and solve problems. This individual will display a high degree of professional judgment, communication, training and project management skills.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Administers, assists and supports the overall leadership, management and daily needs of Student Central along with the day to day aspects of and administrative support of the office.
- Responsible for conducting and coordinating activities to educate students about financial literacy/empowerment including, but not limited, to Start Now events and FAFSA or financial workshops. The Associate Director will create and maintain presentations for these events.
- Assist the Director in providing direct supervision to full-time, part-time and student staff which includes hiring, training, performance management, coaching and evaluation of staff.
- Assist the Director with establishing policies, procedures and schedules of in-person visits, phone, email and other processing to ensure full-service assistance and adequate coverage of the department.
- Engage, motivate and foster teamwork and positive work environment with staff through effective communication and cooperative work.
- Collaborate with stakeholders such as Admissions, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, the Dean of Students, HOPE, Advising and LifeMap and other BHCC offices to provide a positive and success-focused student experience.
- Ability to work in an environment with competing priorities that require the coordination and management of students, staff, resources and timelines.
- Must be able to flex working hours as required for some evening/weekend events and programming.
- Responsible for data collection and reporting of data pertinent to the overall performance of the one-stop.
- Track walk-ins, phone calls, emails, indexing, and cashiering statistics to determine/adjust staffing needs based on student demand.
- Serve on various department, division and college committees.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required; with 5-7 years' work experience involving academic records, financial aid, student payment, academic advisement or other related higher education student support services offices, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- At least 2 years supervisory experience.
- Experience working with directly with students in a student services or equivalent setting.
- Proficiency in student information systems and related technology as well as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Webex required.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and to foster an inclusive campus and community culture.
- Experience with staff development and training.
- Proven ability to resolve conflicts and work effectively in a team environment as well as ability to work independently to achieve departmental goals.
- Ability to work varied hours to include evening weekends during peak periods.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Ellucian Colleague or other Student Information System.
- Experience working in a community college setting.
- Prior one-stop experience.
- Previous experience leading continuous process improvement.
- Strategic management experience.
Additional Information:
Salary Range: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 Actual salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
