General Statement and Duties
The Billing Administrator will concentrate on two key roles. The first role will be collecting, posting, and managing account payments for Breathe SoCal's Breathe Easier Asthma Management (BEAM) program. The individual will be responsible for submitting claims and following up with insurance companies and Medi-Cal for reimbursable activities under the Cal-AIM program. This individual will also help schedule visits with patients, manage patient files, and ensure HIPAA compliance. As this is a new position, it will require establishing procedures and protocols for billing for health care services, so previous experience is a must. The second role will be providing general administrative assistance to Programs staff, assisting with clerical duties including filing, data entry, administrative accounting duties, and other tasks as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Perform all areas of initial billing, secondary billing, and payer audit follow-up for government and non-government claims.
- Conduct all billing-related tasks including collection of billing data, data entry, running reports and data reconciliation.
- Prepare and submit claims to various insurance companies and Medi-Cal.
- Ensure all services have been billed accurately and within required timeframes.
- Process payments from insurance companies and prepare a daily deposit.
- Answer questions from insurance companies and government agencies.
- Work with program staff to conform reimbursable activities with reimbursement requests.
- Perform general clerical and administrative duties including filing, data entry, research, etc.
- Prepare and maintain various reports, schedules, and reconciliations.
- Participate in educational activities and attend monthly staff meetings.
- Conduct self in accordance with Breathe SoCal’s employee manual.
- Maintain strictest confidentiality; adhere to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations; ensure are records are handled in HIPAA-compliant fashion.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of medical billing/collection practices.
- Knowledge of basic medical coding and third-party operating procedures and practices.
- Knowledge of computer programs such as Word and Excel.
- Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record-keeping.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to find solutions to problems and keeps management informed of issues.
- Previous professional experience working for a medical, clinical, and/or public health organization.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED minimum. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Fluency in written and spoken Spanish.
