HSC Institutional Advancement seeks to advance HSC's mission to create solutions for a healthier community. Through external support, community and alumni engagement, our goal is to build meaningful relationships that expand opportunities for our students, faculty and programs in ways that transform lives.
Position Overview
The Director of Special Events and Community Engagement develops and implements special events and activities for Institutional Advancement and the Presidents Office to promote alumni and community engagement, increase financial support, and enhance HSCs brand awareness and reputation. This position requires a dynamic individual with excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as a passion for creating meaningful connections between the Health Science Center and the community it serves. Reporting directly to the Senior Director, Special Events Community Engagement the Director will oversee all aspects of planning, coordinating, and executing special events, recruiting/managing volunteers, and fostering partnerships and collaborations with community organizations.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field, and three years' of related professional experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Proven experience in event planning and execution, preferably in a healthcare or academic setting.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities to develop innovative approaches to community engagement.
- Knowledge of healthcare industry trends, community engagement best practices, and donor relations best practices.
- Proficiency in using event management software, marketing tools, and social media platforms.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required by event schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and three years of related professional experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Job Duties:
- Collaborates with the marketing and communications team to develop invitations, promotional materials, and campaigns for special events and community engagement initiatives.
- Utilizes various marketing channels, including print media, social media, websites, and newsletters, to promote events and engage the community.
- Monitors and analyzes event and community engagement metrics to measure effectiveness and make data driven improvements.
- Collaborates with internal departments, external vendors, and community partners to ensure successful event execution.
- Assists with event budgets, logistics, timelines, and resources effectively.
- Utilizes innovative approaches to create engaging and impactful event experiences.
- Develops and implements strategies to foster strong relationships with community organizations, stakeholders, and key influencers.
- Identifies opportunities for collaboration and partnership with community organizations to enhance the HSC's community engagement efforts.
- Organizes volunteers and participates in community outreach activities, including health fairs and volunteer-driven initiatives.
- In collaboration with the Senior Director, develops and executes a comprehensive special events strategy that aligns with HSC's mission and goals.
- Plans, coordinates, and oversees all aspects of special events, including conferences, seminars, workshops, fundraising events, and alumni/community outreach programs for Institutional Advancement and the Presidents Office.
Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required by event schedules.
