Responsibilities:
- Receive emergency and non-emergency calls from the public and dispatch appropriate personnel or resources
- Gather and record accurate information from callers and enter it into the computer-aided dispatch system
- Monitor and track the location of field units using GPS technology
- Provide clear and concise instructions to field units, ensuring their safety and efficient response to incidents
- Collaborate with law enforcement, medical personnel, and other emergency services to coordinate response efforts
- Maintain accurate records of all calls, incidents, and actions taken during each shift
- Utilize mapping software and GIS tools to identify locations and provide accurate directions to field units
- Handle high-stress situations with professionalism and maintain composure during intense or emotional calls
- Follow established protocols and procedures for handling different types of emergencies
Experience:
- Previous experience as a dispatcher or in a related field is preferred but not required
- Familiarity with phone etiquette and effective communication techniques
- Knowledge of law enforcement procedures, medical terminology, and first aid principles is a plus
- Proficient in data entry and computer skills, including the use of dispatch software systems
- Ability to transcribe information accurately and quickly during phone conversations
- Strong conflict management skills to deescalate tense situations over the phone
