We’re currently seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounting Specialist I to join our team. If you’re a self-starter, have a passion for numbers and a strong understanding of accounting principles, we want to hear from you!
In this crucial role as part of our Finance team, you will be the primary operator of the Prologue Accounts Payable (APS) and Check Reconciliation (CRS) modules. Your main responsibilities will include performing various accounting functions related to maintaining the general ledger and reconciling various general ledger accounts. Additionally, you may be responsible for daily treasury monitoring and reconciliation.
Essential Pieces of the Position:

Operates the Prologue A/P system (APS) including ensuring accurate account coding, appropriate invoice authorization, maintains vendor file information, scans invoices, enters payables for payment and maintains financial controls.

Provides administrative support to purchasing activities.

Reconciles statements for various correspondent bank accounts as needed.

Posts general journal entries.

Performs reconciliation of official check program and Positive Pay including verifying official checks and money orders and processing stop payments and corrections to official checks.

Acts as a backup for daily treasury settlement activities such as reconciliation of the Federal Reserve Account, preparation of Federal Reserve 2900, monitoring and maintaining Fed Account daily balance.

Participates in balancing Fiserv EFT ATM/debit card transactions, as needed.

Completes daily and monthly account reconciliations. Assists with month-end reconciliation notebook.

Coordinates and reconciles cash inventory.

Provides a high level of internal and external customer service.

Maintains responsibility for the Employee Expense Reimbursement and Credit Card Reconciliation process

Performs accounting functions for ancillary deposit products including IntraFi (CDARS, ICS), cash management and wholesale funding programs.

Directs the balancing and remitting process for backup withholding to IRS and State of Maine, as needed.

Maintains responsibility for the remittance and reconciliation of the Trust Department’s tax withholding to IRS and the State of Maine.

Reports and maintains vendor files for the IRS Year-end 1099 reporting.

Maintains knowledge of sales and use tax compliance issues and regulations as they relate to financial institution products and services.

Works with multiple software applications including spreadsheet, accounting, database, core and ancillary modules.
Our Candidate Should Have:

High School diploma or equivalent required; further coursework that demonstrates knowledge of accounting principles preferred

Experience working in a financial institution is preferred but not required

Strong analytical, verbal, mathematical and written communication skills

Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Power Point

Knowledge of financial institution policies and procedures is preferred
