Under the supervision of the Positive Behavior Support Coordinator, the Positive Support Specialist is responsible for crisis prevention and intervention and assistance to classrooms or students as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide crisis prevention support including but not limited to push-in support in the classrooms, regular supervision and monitoring of students in classrooms and hallways, attendance on school trips, assistance during events, assistance with transportation and supervision and support of individual students.
- Provide crisis intervention support including but not limited to responding to classroom calls in a timely manner.
- Assist with the initial training and refresher nonviolent crisis intervention training for school employees.
- Assist with data collection including but not limited to reviewing and updating team calls and codes log, recording student visits to the quiet room, and documenting behavioral incident by completing reports in Best Notes.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings as needed and provide assistance with reviewing incidents, problem-solving, and providing recommendations to assist students with challenging behavior.
- Consult with teachers and clinical staff about students' behavior patterns, support needed following an incidents and effective strategies for specific students.
- Assist with arrival and or dismissal procedures, monitoring attendance on the bus, and relaying any communication from parents., bus matrons, teachers, or students about concerns or information relevant to students during arrival/dismissal time assist with supervising students and group management on school trips, special events and emergency procedures including fire drills and lock down procedures.
- Follow all school policies and procedures as set forth in the Reece School Policies and Procedures Handbook.
- Follow OSHA requirements for maintaining clean, safe environment.
- Performs additional duties as determined by the Coordinator.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of successful experience in planning and delivering behavior intervention and crisis intervention to students with special needs with significant challenges in a school setting.
- Knowledge of positive behavior supports strategies and behavior management principles.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills; the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
- Training in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Program.
- Physical requirements of this position including being able to restrain students weighing more than 100 pounds when needed.

Pay: $54,000.00 - $59,000.00 per year
