Responsibilities may include planning and conducting a complete project or relatively limited scope or portion of a large and more diverse project. Selecting and adapting plans, techniques, designs or layouts. Reviews and analyzes a variety of design data to determine requirements to meet objectives. Prepares layouts, detailed specifications, parts/materials lists, estimates, procedures, etc. May supervise other designers.
RESPONSIBLITIES
- Performs routine and complex assignments involving planning and conducting design and layout of non-complex projects or portion of a complex project.
- Performs field measurements independently.
- Selects and implements designs, techniques, layouts and plans.
- Reviews and analyzes designs to determine layout requirements.
- May assist lead engineer in calculating design data.
- Edits technical specification sections.
- Learns and applies techniques for documenting project scope.
- Assists in preparing cost estimates and reports.
- Researches routine code issues.
- Promotes use of and participates in development of company design and production standards.
- Reviews drawings and documents to ensure compliance with the company’s design and production standards.
- Assists in the education and development of design staff and acts as a resource for design questions.
Based on skill and experience, may also be responsible for:
- Performs independently or may leads others in performing field measurements.
- May perform and/or direct construction support/management on simple projects.
- Calculates design data.
- Prepares technical portion of specifications/materials lists, etc.
- Assists in preparing cost estimates and reports.
- Researches non-routine code issues and obtains interpretations from code officials.
- Reviews and checks work of other designers/drafters.
- May serve as discipline lead and direct work of other designers/drafters.
- May serve as Project Lead on routine, single-discipline projects.
- Coordinates other discipline tasks with their own.
- Prepares opinion of probable costs and reviews contractor cost estimates.
- In role of project engineer on routine projects, coordinates staff activities to assure achieving goals of project budget, schedule, and quality.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Technical or Associates Degree (or working towards degree) in applicable design disciplines from an accredited technical institution or college.
- Proficient in the use of computer for design using CAD and REVIT.
- Valid Drivers’ License.
- 6+ years of related drafting and/or design experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Proficient in the PC/windows environment with experience in e-mail, word processing, spreadsheets, etc.
- Possess attention to detail.
