The Los Angeles Times is seeking a highly skilled, savvy, creative Designer with a passion for crafting compelling visual content across various mediums, including social media, digital platforms and print material. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in helping us bring creative work to life.
As a Designer with the Los Angeles Times you will support the company's marketing efforts by crafting clear and compelling designs across a range of formats to showcase our product portfolio to advertising clients and prospects. The Designer will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a consistent visual tone across advertising assets, sales collateral, email campaigns, and more. In this role you will create designs that may range from high-fidelity mock-ups to final executions.
Responsibilities:
- Create engaging marketing campaigns for the company’s business platform, B2B Publishing, varying from print, digital ads and social media creatives as well as web banners/thumbnails
- Design visually appealing and informative marketing decks and sell sheets for presentations, pitches and client meetings
- Develop promotional assets including digital and print ads for marketing campaigns and events
- Create mock-ups and visuals of print and digital ads, for the company’s web pages and company print covers and special sections
- Ensure that all designs and marketing decks/sell sheets adhere to brand guidelines and reflect the brand’s tone and messaging
- Adapt designs for different platforms and formats, optimizing them for maximum and visibility.
- Create clear and engaging visuals in support of potential advertising clients, partnerships, and opportunities. Such visuals may include, but are not limited to, marketing and sales collateral, digital and print advertisements, social media, email campaigns, video sizzle reels, direct mail and more
- Create concepts, sketches, graphics and high-fidelity executions in support of brand and marketing campaigns, packaging, and store design
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in portfolio showcasing graphic design skills across various mediums such as digital, ads, print, social and video
- Solid understanding of fundamental marketing principles including social, online/digital, product development
- Great organizational skills with design files as well as great attention to detail with emphasis on accuracy and quality
- In-depth knowledge of typography
- Strong project management with the ability to work well under pressure in a deadline-driven environment
- Tech savvy, with the ability to resolve solutions on the spur of a moment
- Ability to leverage feedback and channel it into design exploration
- Strong storytelling skills
- Knowledgeable and flexible with both Mac and PC platforms
- Intuitive knowledge for design consistency throughout assets
- Ability to successfully apply necessary brand elements, and able to expand style guide to various assets
- Expert in Graphic Design and Apple Keynote, including animation
- Strong background in Google Drive and MS Office Suites
Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic understanding of motion graphics and animate vector and 2D graphics for advertisement, socials, and websites using tools such as After Effects or Adobe Premiere
- Strong understanding and skills in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign (other Creative Cloud programs are a plus)

The pay scale the Company reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of the posting is $75,000- $83,500 and takes into account a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, experience, training, licenses, certifications, and other business or organizational needs. Compensation will be determined based on the above factors along with the requirements of the position. At The L.A.
