Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Remote Proofreader/Copy Editor to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, clarity, and consistency of our legal documents, marketing materials, and internal communications. This is a remote position, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere.
Key Responsibilities:
- Proofread and edit legal documents, including briefs, motions, contracts, and correspondence, for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and formatting errors.
- Ensure all documents comply with legal standards and the firm's style guidelines.
- Review marketing materials, website content, and social media posts for accuracy and clarity.
- Collaborate with attorneys and support staff to understand document requirements and make necessary revisions.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Provide constructive feedback to improve the quality of writing within the firm.
- Manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a proofreader, copy editor, or in a similar role, preferably in a legal environment.
- Exceptional command of the English language, with excellent grammar and punctuation skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to spot errors quickly.
- Familiarity with legal terminology and documentation is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in using proofreading tools and software (e.g., Grammarly, Microsoft Word).
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote setting.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with a diverse team.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with legal research and citation formatting (e.g., Bluebook, APA).
- Knowledge of SEO best practices for editing online content.
- Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Trello, Asana).
