Railserve is a leading provider of in-plant rail switching, transloading, and material handling services — operating at over 75 locations in North America. We use our own locomotives and employees to safely move railcars within industrial, manufacturing and production plants. But we're not just rail car movers; we also provide a number of other services which include: rail car loading, rail car unloading, track maintenance, inspection or repair and many others.

The Role:
This position is responsible for supervising and coordinating switch crews in the movement and placement of rail cars in a rail yard.
What you'd be doing:
- Oversees the work assigned to the crew ensuring that it is completed in a safe and efficient manner.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; providing performance input.
- Operate electric, diesel-electric, or gas-turbine-electric locomotives.
- Interpret train orders, signals, and rules and regulations.
- Transport freight; timely and correct switching and placement of rail cars.
- Communicates frequently with the yard coordinator reporting the progress of the crew's work.
- Trains new employees on procedures and policies.
- Plan and direct movement of rail cars.
- Coordinate the movements with plant facility personnel to provide required service.
- Interprets railroad signals, rules and regulations, following safety regulations and switching schedule.
- Observes track to detect obstructions or defects.
- Prepares reports to explain accidents, unscheduled stops, or delays.
- Lubricates moving parts of locomotive.
- Ability to handle railroad equipment in a safe manner using manually operated brakes.
- Must wear required personal protective equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.

- 1+ years supervisory experience preferred
- High School diploma (or equivalent)
- Military experience helpful
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Must be extremely dependable and punctual in attendance; must have reliable transportation to work every day.
- Good communication skills; Must be comfortable engaging in a variety of different communicative modes (verbal, non-verbal, and written) and being attuned to others through strong active listening skills.
- Ability to assess multiple tasks and develop a plan to complete them in a timely manner.
- Must have the ability to work well with others as part of a team.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move heavy weights. Environmental Conditions
- Moderate to heavy physical effort involved. Lifts and carries necessary equipment to car to perform operation.
- Climbs, walks, and balances on top of car.
- Uses hand tools, power tools, and equipment
- Must follow prescribed safety rules to avoid possible injury.
