Aaron School is a private special education school in Manhattan that provides integrated academic, enrichment, and therapeutic services to students with learning differences, with the goal of enabling them to become confident and successful learners. Aaron School is seeking a History/Social Studies Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year for students in grades 8 to 12. Offering an academically rigorous curriculum aligned with the New York State Learning Standards, Aaron employs an individualized approach to ensure student achievement while preparing them for post-secondary educational experiences and professional careers.
Candidate must hold NYS teaching certification. Special Education certification and experience preferred.
Salary range $60,000-$74,000
RESPONSIBILITIES | WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Facilitates assigned classes and all associated responsibilities (i.e., lesson planning, progress monitoring, grade reporting, etc.)
- Designs and implements lessons that are engaging for middle and high school students while adhering to the goals of the curriculum
- Differentiates instruction and materials to ensure that the learning and social needs of all students are being met
- Develops and implements necessary interventions and strategies to promote achievement of student goals and objectives
- Maintains a current knowledge of curriculum and education best practices and trends
- Develops appropriate goals and objectives for each student
- Instructs students on socially acceptable behaviors and personal development skills by collaborating with Related Services providers regarding curriculum pertaining to social skills
- Models effective instructional techniques and delegates appropriate tasks to Assistant Teachers
- Collaborates with faculty and the administrative team to ensure that all academic curricula are being implemented and differentiated accordingly for all students
- Manages student behavior through monitoring, supervising, assessing behavioral patterns, and implementing the school-wide behavior management system for all students, and implementing individual behavior plans when applicable
- Assists parents with understanding and supporting educational objectives, learning expectations and behavioral standards through frequent emails, phone calls, meetings, parent-teacher conferences, etc.
- Monitors, evaluates and documents student progress through ongoing informal and formal assessment devices
QUALIFICATIONS | WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- NYS teaching certification
- Special Education certification and teaching experience preferred
