The Director of Development reports to the Chief Executive Officer. The Director of Development intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture and builds the community’s understanding of the YMCA’s cause and impact through development and implementation of effective donor engagement and communications strategies. This position follows and promotes the Y’s philosophy in a fast-paced environment and delivers mission-driven messaging to the community and constituency consistently to strengthen the Y’s position as a leading charitable organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Educate staff, volunteers, and members about the charitable nature of the Y; leads assigned aspects of annual fundraising campaign and appeals.
- Increase the position and visibility of the Y as a cause-driven charitable organization that all in the community should support, which includes but not limited to, a digital/electronic presence.
- Draft private and government grant proposals and budgets as determined by the CEO and Association priorities. Monitor grant requirements; assist in meeting grant-reporting requirements.
- Administer funded grants and create required grant reports. Maintain grant files. Develop and maintain master calendar and tracking system for grant and report deadlines.
- Provide administrative fund development support and resources as needed, including grants management, donor reports and acknowledgments.
- Provide organizational support to cultivate, solicit, and steward current donor pool, growing support through thoughtful solicitation and recognition strategies.
- Support in creating an annual fundraising campaign strategy for the Y in collaboration with the CEO - execute identified strategies.
- Supervise the maintenance of donor database and related administrative tasks including, but not limited to monthly invoicing, online donations management/acknowledgement, etc.
- Provide support to staff on best practices.
- Provides support and leadership for Annual Support Campaign, and other donor-related events and communications.
- Provides training to staff/volunteers for success in all fundraising efforts.
- Implements all phases of donor management, including identification, cultivation, stewardship, and recognition.
- Partner with the CEO in the development and coordination of year-round communication to existing and potential donors, including the creation of campaign materials.
- Establishes systems for timely and appropriate acknowledgements of annual campaign gifts and monitors for quality and timeliness.
- Coordinates additional donor acknowledgement and social media postings and press as needed.
- Manages website content in relation to fund development and donor recognition.
- Partners in the gathering and documentation of donor and member testimonials for use in fundraising efforts.
- Develop strategies to maintain and enhance contact with current and past donors.
- Expand member giving and support in creating donor solicitation strategies including, but not limited to, online giving platforms.
- Manage donor events as determined by the strategic plan and/or CEO.
- Partner in the compiling of program statistics.
- Monitoring/recording and reporting financial information as needed. Assures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to grants.

- Customer Service – Follow up on complaints, questions, and concerns; respond to internal/external customer needs in a friendly, timely and efficient manner.

Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in nonprofit fund development and membership/customer service.
Required Technical / Other Skills and Abilities
- Possess strong writing and communication skills and be able to formulate impactful stories and publications via social media, print media, signage, and mailings.
- Previous experience working with diverse populations preferred.
- Must be able to drive own vehicle, valid insurance/Driver’s License, and clear driving record. Remain insurable during employment.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Working knowledge of fundraising software preferred.

Pay: $72,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
