Job Goal
The Licensed Nurse will implement, manage, and monitor the health and safety of students in the school clinic. The Registered Nurse, will perform medication administration, implement student-specific procedures, and assist in managing injuries and illness complaints.
Qualifications:
- An Associate Degree of Science in Nursing .
- Licensed Practical Nurse
- Current, valid state certification and in good standing
- Certified CPR and negative TB skin test or chest x-ray.
- Minimum one (3) years of documented health care experience is required
- Ensures confidentiality and security of the student's medical information.
- Must be able to stand, walk, squat, bend, kneel, reach, twist, push, and pull. Varied assistance is required depending on the mobility of the client. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
Reports to: Head of School
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Provides nursing care to students with physical, emotional, and/or social health problems or those identified as high risk for developing health problems using the nursing process as outlined in the Florida Nurse Practice Act.
- Provides medication, procedures, and treatments using the nursing process as outlined in the Florida Nurse Practice Act and following district guidelines and policies.
- Implements delegated activities according to training and district guidelines.
- Provides basic first aid and CPR as necessary to all students and staff.
- Follow up on students with injuries, illnesses, and/or medical problems when appropriate.
- Maintains appropriate communication with school students, parents/guardians, staff, and site administration.
- Maintains valid state licenses, including CPR, first aid, and Bloodborne Pathogen Certification by attending continuing education programs and other training activities.
- Monitors newly enrolled students in order to ensure that state law and district policy are implemented concerning health issues (i.e., immunization, medical records).
- Advises and counsels students, staff and parents, as appropriate, concerning health issues.
- Provides input to the administration concerning the implementation of state law and the development of AYA's policies and procedures related to health issues.
- Provides first aid as needed if certified.
- Assists emergency care givers as applicable. Assists in maintaining appropriate records as required. Makes recommendations to the HOS regarding health and safety to promote a safe, healthy and comfortable learning environment.
- Communicates with parents/guardians as needed concerning their child’s health
- Keeps staff informed about relevant health issues.
- Communicates with various health-related organizations in the community and surrounding areas as needed for students and staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned and deemed appropriate by the Head of School.

This position works in various settings and outdoors, and may experience heat or cold extremes and fumes, odors, dust, and the noise level is moderate to loud.
