The Head of Gymnastics will teach campers how to safely execute beginner, intermediate and/or advanced gymnastics skills. The Head of Gymnastics will report directly to the Camp Directors.

Job Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise classes with campers (girls) of different age groups and skill levels
- Teach skills and abilities on floor exercise, low beam and bars following the standard for Alford Lake Camp’s Gymnastics curriculum
- Ensure controlled class management: concentrate on all gymnasts (don’t pick favorites), teach/expect respectful behavior, practice positive reinforcement
- Assess the skills of each gymnast to determine readiness for all equipment use
- Set up a safe gym environment: adhere to safe practices for all equipment
- Ensure correct technique is used while spotting
- Review gym and facility safety with all campers
- Adapt equipment for age, ability, and size of gymnast
- Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures
- to teach written lesson plans
- Wear appropriate camp clothing and footwear for gymnastics
- Complete camper attendance and assessments
- Document levels passed by campers
- Always be engaged with the campers while coaching
- Ensure the Gymnastics area is clean and all equipment put away at the end of the morning and afternoon teaching periods
- Train and oversee a second Gymnastics counselor
- Complete all paperwork required by ALC and the American Camp Association

Additional Requirements:
- Being a counselor in a camp setting will require involvement within the camp community in a variety of ways. These may include, but are not limited to, community meeting attendance, helping in various ways around camp (i.e. dining room clean up, serving food, special event involvement, driving)
- A love of children (and a lot of patience) and a love of gymnastics!
- The ability to lift up to 25 pounds; physical activity involved in spotting and moving equipment: pulling, lifting, crouching, balancing, and climbing
- The ability to personably communicate with other staff and parents who might visit
- Standard First-Aid Certification, able to administer first aid if necessary
