Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Fiction Editor to join our team. In this role, you will play a critical role in shaping and refining fiction manuscripts, working closely with project managers to elevate their storytelling and ensure the quality and coherence of their work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with project managers to assess and provide constructive feedback on fiction manuscripts, offering guidance and suggestions for plot development, character arcs, pacing, and narrative structure.
- Edit and revise fiction manuscripts for clarity, coherence, and consistency, ensuring adherence to genre conventions, style guidelines, and publishing standards.
- Provide line editing, copy editing, and proofreading services to polish manuscripts, correcting errors in grammar, punctuation, syntax, and style while preserving the author's voice and vision.
- Communicate effectively with project managers to discuss revisions, address concerns, and ensure alignment with their creative vision and intentions throughout the editing process.
- Work closely with other members of the editorial team, including acquisitions editors, proofreaders, and designers, to coordinate workflow and ensure timely delivery of edited manuscripts.
- Stay informed about industry trends, market preferences, and reader expectations in the fiction genre, providing insights and recommendations to enhance the appeal and marketability of our books.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in English, creative writing, journalism, or related field preferred.
- Proven experience as a fiction editor, with a portfolio showcasing your editing skills and proficiency in refining and polishing fiction manuscripts across various genres.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a strong command of grammar, punctuation, and style.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback and guidance to authors, identifying strengths and weaknesses in their writing and offering actionable suggestions for improvement.
- Attention to detail and ability to maintain consistency and coherence in manuscripts while preserving the author's voice and style.
- Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced publishing environment.
- Passion for fiction and a deep understanding of genre conventions, tropes, and reader expectations, with a commitment to upholding high standards of storytelling excellence.
