Our established General Engineering Construction firm is growing and we have an excellent opportunity for a Superintendent to join our team of professionals. We specialize in Excavation/Installation/Repair of Wet Utilities (Sewer, Water, Storm Drain) and Dry Utilities (Cable/TV/PG&E & Gas) on our residential, public, and commercial projects. We are looking for a hard working professional who enjoys meeting challenges and surpassing customer expectations. The ideal candidate will be self- motivated, energetic, team player who can manage crew and run jobs start to finish.
We need a superintendent that is skilled in excavation for pipeline trenches. Must have experience working on construction sites, have a clean driving record and knowledgeable of OSHA safety standards and procedures.

Candidate must have at least (3) years of experience as an underground utilities foreman and at least (5) years experience in the trade. Please do not apply if you do not have direct experience in this particular trade. MUST be able to either lay pipe or operate equipment as this position is for a Working Superintended who will understand the trade and able to supervise skilled tradesmen. Must be very detailed and organized. Must not be afraid to jump in and get your hands dirty.
Example of Qualifications & Duties
· Be a leader for our construction team by overseeing and directing construction projects from start to completion, ensuring efficient scheduling, safe, quality construction in a fun and safe environment.
· Maintain a thorough understanding of each projects scope of work; visit assigned project work sites daily, clarify scope of work, and assist in preparing cost estimates and proposals for project, including change orders.
· Prepare internal and external reports pertaining to job status and revenue/cost projections.
· On various assigned projects work alongside field labor.
· Oversee performance of all trade contractors and reviews architectural and engineering drawings to make sure that all specifications and regulations are being followed.
· Establish, monitor, communicate and maintain project schedules, i.e:
o Schedule all gas installs;
o Walk with the crew leaders and client representatives to fill out billing sheets;
o Attend weekly job meetings with clients on assigned projects;
o Create and/or Review daily logs on a daily basis for assigned projects;
· Meet with Owners on a regular basis to discuss status of projects, determine client satisfaction and take immediate action to respond to problems and concerns.
· Conduct and document project progress meetings with client and workers.
· Collaborate with office administrators to ensure proper administration of construction contracts and for obtaining all necessary permits and licenses.
· Proactively identify changes in project scope and ensure appropriate measures are taken to document.
· Assist in managing project closeout process for timely completion.
· Minimizes exposure and risk through safety audits and quality assurance controls; conduct and track safety meetings, job safety analysis, hazard identification, safety/employee investigations on assigned projects.
· Advise on provisions to minimize safety risks and intervene in unsafe activities or operations; develop and implement the safety and health program and enforce CAL/OSHA policies (e.g. accident reporting process).
· Provide support and direction in the training and development of personnel by organizing and conducting safety meetings and collaborating with managers to monitor compliance and identify safety issues.
· Direct accident investigation procedures and monitor corrective action necessary to prevent recurrence; assist in keeping records of safety-related incidents.
· Supervise the use and maintenance of the equipment and machinery
· Assist in maintaining log books of owned/rented equipment, tools and supplies on Joseph Engineering’s jobsites.
· Assist in scheduling routine maintenance on all equipment, vehicles & haul trailers. This includes regular oil changes, pull ropes and replacement of filters.
· Assist in arraigning for the repair of equipment and tools as needed by outside vendors.
· Place orders for inventory materials.
· Prepare weekly & monthly inventory reports and analysis of usage.
· Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
· B.S. degree in construction management, engineering, or related field or 5 years of direct experience
· Experience estimating and managing self-performed work activities and subcontracted work
· Excellent time management skills
· Strong written and oral communication skills
· Strong negotiating skills
· Competent in conflict and crisis management
· Ability to plan and see “the big picture”
· Expert knowledge of building products, construction details and relevant rules, regulations, quality standards, and safety standards.
· Must possess a valid driver license.
· Must be able to pass a background check
· Basic knowledge and use of computer software. i.e. email, Excel, Word, etc.
Construction Skills
· Understands means and methods of construction associated with underground utilities, grading, and civil engineering construction.
· Has a working knowledge of the cost of goods and services.
· Understands the sequencing of work and the strategy of creating effective project schedules.
· Understands project cost control and change order management.

Pay: $56,160.00 - $83,200.00 per year
