The Purchasing Manager will be responsible for the sourcing and ordering of all raw materials, developing, and implementing procurement strategies, and providing logistical support to assist Production, Customer Service, and R&D teams. The Purchasing Manager will also be responsible for collaborating with senior leadership and external vendors on a regular basis.
Essential Job Duties
1. Run MRP / determine the items and corresponding quantities needed for production and stock
2. Creates and maintains purchase orders
3. Receives/records quotes for all items from all approved (or prospective) vendors
4. Evaluates and responds to all vendor inquiries, issues, and communicates accordingly
5. Sources new vendors and initiates the Vendor Approval Process (e.g., completes credit applications, submits W-9 requests, etc.)
6. Sources new raw materials for R&D when needed; enters and assigns all new raw material item numbers into ERP system
7. Orders raw material samples for R&D team and manages tracking
8. Creates, updates, and maintains all new raw material/sourcing request forms
9. Keep record of all samples received and ensures they get to the correct party
10. Evaluates all packaging options and requirements and orders accordingly
11. Communicates to leadership which vendor to purchase from if multiple raw materials are approved
12. Communicates with Sales and R&D regarding potential issues with new and existing raw materials (e.g., issues regarding lead time/availability)
13. Requests, receives, and records pricing, MOQ, pack size, FOB point, lead time, vendor item#, and possible concerns for each raw material
14. Follows up with vendors regarding order confirmations, if not received in a timely manner
15. Tracks all inbound orders and updates production of lead times, any issues, etc. accordingly
16. Keeps record of all pending orders and their expected ETA
17. Compares received items and paperwork to PO and updates/inquires accordingly
18. Maintains a log of every inbound item along with the quantity ordered, pack size, vendor, estimated ship date, ETA, actual delivery date, and lot number
19. Works directly with regulatory authorities to evaluate and respond to any material integrity issues
20. Organizes all returns and performs returns in system
21. Assists with demand planning strategy for both new and existing products
22. Keeps up with market intelligence to help predict possible issues/concerns
23. Schedules meetings/presentations with R&D and prospective vendors
24. Assists leadership with analysis on raw material usage, spend, and pricing
25. Meets with senior leadership and external vendors to discuss market updates, pricing, contracts, new materials, etc.
26. Attends trade shows to network with industry vendors and become more familiar with industry
Required Education and Experience
- 3-5 years of ingredient, manufacturing, chemical, packaging and processing, and/or equipment purchasing experience
- Proficient in Excel and data analysis
- Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills, communication skills, and vendor management skills
- Ample demand planning experience and strong inventory management capabilities
- Full understanding of logistics and related computer systems including MRP and ERP systems
- Able to work with all levels of staff
- Able to lift up to 20lbs
Preferred Education and Experience
- B.S. degree in Analytical Chemistry/Applied Chemistry, Biochemistry, Food Science or related field
- Strong knowledge of supply chain management
- Proficient in MS Office
- Experience in Flavor/food manufacturing
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
