Reporting directly to the Controller, the staff accountant is responsible for the day-to-day operations in the accounting department. This position offers a unique opportunity for growth and learning, as it requires coordination of all aspects of the credit union's accounting functions, including the general ledger, accounts payable, fixed assets, and reconciliations. The staff accountant also exercises credit union policies, procedures, and controls in the accounting/finance department, providing a platform for professional development and advancement.
Position Responsibilities:
· While reporting to the Controller, the role is to ensure an accurate and timely monthly and year-end close.
- Ensures the accuracy and timeliness of preparing reporting requirements, assigned analyses, and projects.
- Reviews journal entries into various accounts continuously for accuracy and completeness.
· Provides technical support and assistance to troubleshoot and determine how and when to escalate issues
· Reconciling general ledger accounts, researching the cause of discrepancies, and making general ledger entries to correct mistakes.
· Supports the reliability and operations of the accounting systems and processes to ensure the accounting/finance personnel perform their responsibilities efficiently.
· Systems utilized include accounting and core systems, monitoring the impact on daily operations.
- Performs ad hoc general ledger and accounting projects and analysis for credit union management.
- Identify and help resolve general ledger balance variances.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by Manager(s).

- Filing sales and backup withholding tax returns
- Balance various suspense accounts in the General Ledger

Minimum Requirements
· Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Management, Finance, or a related field or two years of related work experience. Additional experience may be considered instead of educational requirements.
· At least two years of progressively more responsible experience within a financial services organization, which has provided an opportunity to gain the necessary experience and background knowledge to help direct the accounting department.
· Demonstrates working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
